25-Man Team USA Roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics!

I am well aware that this roster will eventually be narrowed down to 12 players.

However, I believe that there are players who are locked in to make this roster (unless they are injured or something)

  1. Stephen Curry

  2. LeBron James

  3. Anthony Davis

  4. Kevin Durant

  5. Bam Adebayo

  6. Damian Lillard

This fills up 1/2 of our roster, but we're still lacking a SG. I'd like Klay Thompson, 1) because Steve Kerr is coaching and 2) because Steph will be playing. If not, then Devin Booker is the obvious choice as the best 2 in the league. James Harden and Anthony Edwards also deserve mentions, Harden because he is one of the better guards in the league, not to mention I am prioritising older players because this is probably one of their last shots to represent team USA, and Ant-Man because he went to the FIBA WC with Kerr and did very well there.

Next, the back-up forwards. Jimmy Butler played very well in this year's playoffs, and Kawhi Leonard, when healthy, is arguably the best small forward in the Association right now. I would be shocked if neither of them made it in. I also mentioned Paul George as an option because, again, he's getting older and can be used in Kerr's switch-heavy scheme.

The backup power forward spot will, in all likelihood, probably go to Jayson Tatum. He's a top 10 player in the NBA right now in my opinion, but Draymond Green has a storied relationship with the Splash Bros and Steve Kerr, not to mention he will probably be retired, or somewhere close in 2028. Zion is a shout I've heard a lot, but his problems off the court will result in Kerr looking elsewhere, like Mikal Bridges, who went to the FIBA WC with Ant-Man.

The weakest spot will probably be the 3rd-string center, as there is a severe lack of good American bigs (compared to other countries, think Jokic, Embiid, Giannis), Bam and AD being the exception. Jaren Jackson Jr went to the FIBA WC, is the reigning DPOY, and would make the team if there Steve Kerr would want a 3rd string big (he probably won't).

I haven't touched on the PG position other than Wardell and Lillard though. CP3 already won 2 Olympic golds, but he's on the Warriors, which makes a difference, and he's 38, so he won't be around in 2028. Kyrie is better than him right now, as is Jrue Holiday who is the best defensive guard on this list.

Spida is simply here because I thought he deserved a mention as the 2nd best SG. DeMar DeRozan played in 2016 and won gold, but he is older than Zach LaVine who is probably his competition for the initial 30-man pre-cut roster, and Walker Kessler went to the FIBA WC, and is a very good rebounder with great rim protection.
