The intrigue of this deal is that both Kyrie Irving and Malcolm Brogdon can play both positions in the backcourt. Given that Brogdon is a bigger guard, he can play the two spot primarily and provide an all-around complementary impact.
Joe Harris missed time this season but is one of the top shooters in the league. Brooklyn would also sacrifice depth with Patty Mills going to Indiana as well. Cam Thomas and the No. 23 overall pick would be headed to the Pacers, too.
It’s hard to believe we’ve reached a point where the Warriors would get the pick in this trade. They would. While Wiggins has morphed into a valuable 3-and-D wing who offers secondary shot creation, Simmons has mostly been on the sidelines for the better part of two seasons.
Still, if any coaching staff has the ingenuity to get around Simmons’ on-court limitations, it’s the Warriors. They may get crazy and put him at center. Who knows. They reinvented Wiggins: they could work the same magic on Simmons.
