Why Houston Does This?

Per recent report, Wall is working with the Rockets to facilitate a trade somewhere else. The problem is though that not many teams can really trade for Wall’s contract. The only two teams who could possibly trade for Wall is Cleveland & Oklahoma City because they have the contracts or cap space available to acquire him. In this scenario, they strike a deal with the Cavs. In return for Wall & House, they get an expiring contract in Rubio who can help mentor KPJ & Green for a season, & Kevin Love, who’ll just come off the bench the next couple of seasons as a solid veteran contributor. The reason Houston sends out a first & gets back a couple late seconds is because of Rubio. His contract expires after this season which will save the Rockets $18M. Cleveland doesn’t really get a significant expiring contract like that, which is why they get that unprotected 1st via Brooklyn.

Rockets Ideal Starting Lineup:

KPJ, Green, Tate, Wood & Theis

Backup Five:

Rubio, Gordon, Nwaba, Love, & Sengun

Rest Of Bench:

Augustine, Thomas, Christopher, Martin, & Garuba

Why Cleveland Does This?

Love isn’t interested in a buy out with the Cavs & they already have 3-4 good solid big man that will need their minutes. They wouldn’t want Love taking minutes away from Mobley, Allen, Stevens, & Markkanen. So instead, they swap out Love/Rubio with Wall/House. I don’t know about y’all but I’m very interested in Cleveland running a three guard lineup with two bigs at the 4 & 5. Just like what OKC did with CP3, Schroeder, & SGA, the Cavs can do that with Sexton, Garland, & Wall. But they’ll actually have two legit bigs with them in the lineup. Mobley & Allen would make up for the size lost in that three guard lineup. And on top of this swap, the Cavs also get a future unprotected 1st via Milwaukee in exchange for their future late 2nds via the Warriors & Nuggets.

Cavaliers Ideal Starting Lineup:

Sexton, Garland, Okoro, Mobley, & Allen

Backup Five:

Wall(6th), Windler, House, Stevens, & Markkanen

Rest Of Bench:

Dotson, Valentine, Osman, Wade, & Kabengele
