Comment Opinions Please. Is This Fair? Please Read Description Since I Wasn’t Able To Include The 6th(MEM) & 7th(CLE) Teams In The Trade Machine Due To The 5 Team Limit.

Trade 1

UTA: Miles McBride, Immanuel Quickley, Quentin Grimes, Evan Fournier, Obi Toppin, 2023 NYK 1st, 2023 DAL 1st, 2023 WAS 1st, 2025 NYK 1st, 2025 MIL 1st, & 2027 NYK Top 5 Protected 1st

NYK: Donovan Mitchell

Why? : The Jazz are in no place to compete for a title or even a top 6 seed in the tough western conference after moving on from Rudy Gobert. And I don’t believe Donovan Mitchell wants to waste 3-4 years off his career on a rebuilding team. It’s time to trade Mitchell for a legit haul & start prepping for the future. The 2023 NBA draft class is loaded so it would be smart for Utah to acquire as many picks as they can to use in that upcoming draft. In this deal, they land 4 young players to build around, 3 1sts in the 2023 draft, & 3 more future 1sts. This would be a great move for the Jazz as it sets them up for a bright future. Toppin is someone who I’m still very high on & believe can be an All-Star one day while Quickley has also shown flashes of his scoring abilities. And both McBride & Grimes are only one year into their rookie contracts & have time to be developed into something special. Then with the avalanche of 2023 1sts they’ll have from this trade & other potential moves, Utah will be in great position to land Victor Wembanyama, a generational prospect who can do things no other 7+ footer has done before. For New York, this might be a slight overpay, but everyone knows you have to give up a little more for All-Star caliber players. Mitchell puts them in a great position to win consistently with Brunson, Barrett, Randle, & Robinson.

Trade 2

UTA: Duncan Robinson & 2023 MIA Lottery Protected 1st

MIA: Bojan Bogdanovic

Why? : With Mitchell off the team, it’s time for Utah to start moving on from their other veterans. A Bogdanovic-Robinson swap where the Jazz gain another 2023 1st makes a ton of sense. It’s all about picks to finish up this Utah offseason. OKC laid out a great blueprint & look at the squad they’ve built in just 2 years after the exit of CP3. If Utah can follow suit & potentially not only land Victor Wembanyama, but other prospects around him like the Thompson brothers, Terquavion Smith, & Leonard Williams, it would be a huge win. The Heat, on the other hand, should be psyched that they’re getting off Robinson’s 4 year contract in return for a better player & expiring contract at the cost of only a late 1st.

——————————————————

Trade 3

UTA: Russell Westbrook & 2027 LAL Top 5 Protected 1st

LAL: Mike Conley, Duncan Robinson, & Rudy Gay

Why? : In order to swap their veterans on multi-year contracts for one large expiring deal & a lightly protected 1st in return. This makes too much sense for Utah. Rebuilding teams take on bad contracts for future draft capital, so the Jazz should have no problem landing Westbrook & buying him out right away. As for the Lakers, they build a much better & more balanced team around James & Davis. Conley would fit well as a secondary playmaker & pick & roll partner with AD while Robinson provides much needed 3pt shooting. Then Rudy Gay is a nice veteran that can come off the bench & play both sides of the ball. This trade obviously isn’t Kyrie Irving, but with reports Brooklyn intends to keep him & KD to compete, this may be LA’s best & only option.

——————————————————

Trade 4

UTA: Malachi Flynn, Svi Mykhailiuk, Khem Birch, & 2023 Lottery Protected TOR 1st

TOR: Jordan Clarkson

Why? : Do I have to keep repeating myself? You guys get it already. This plan is all about accumulating draft capital, which means Jordan Clarkson should be on the move as well. The acquisition of Clarkson makes a ton of sense for Toronto, as they need legit guard depth behind VanVleet & Trent Jr. They literally have nobody. All their depth is at the forward positions with Porter Jr, Boucher, Young, & Achiuwa coming off the bench. Clarkson gives the Raptors a secondary scoring option & a nice offensive energy spark off the bench as a 6th man.

——————————————————

Trade 5

UTA: Danny Green, Killian Tillie, & 2023 Lottery Protected MEM 1st

MEM: Malik Beasley

Why? : Beasley is a great shooter, but he’s much better off on a team that’s trying to contend for a championship right now now. And if he can net Utah another 1st in the 2023 draft, then it would be smart to move him & give the extra minutes to Quentin Grimes. For Memphis, they don’t have to worry about Beasley’s contract, as his last year has a team option. He would be a great fit on this Grizzlies team off the bench as a catch & shooter alongside the playmaking & slashing abilities of Ja Morant. Low risk high reward move for a Memphis squad with title hopes.

——————————————————

Trade 6

UTA: Kevin Love

CLE: Patrick Beverley & Evan Fournier

Why? : Mainly to acquire another decently sized expiring contract to open up more cap space for Utah in the 2023 offseason. If the Jazz can’t be players in the free agent market after landing a Victor or Scoot in the draft, then they can use that extra cap to bring in other bad contracts for even more future draft capital. For the Cleveland side of it, using Love to acquire two nice bench pieces in Beverley & Fournier simply makes sense. With Markkanen already coming off the bench & guys like Wade & Stevens needing more minutes, Love is replaceable. Beverley can fill in for Rubio while he’s dealing with injury & play alongside Garland in the lineup as a defensive ace. And Fournier is a nice wing with length who can play off of Garland & Mobley in the lineup as a catch & shooter or secondary scoring option.

——————————————————

Buyout Candidates

Russell Westbrook

Danny Green

Kevin Love

Why? : Westbrook & Love will undoubtedly contribute to wins, which Utah doesn’t need when they’re tanking for Wemby.

——————————————————

Free Agent Resigning

Eric Paschall

Why? : After all these moves Utah still needs a young backup PF, so why not bring back Paschall who already has some familiarity with the team.

——————————————————

Conclusion

To summarize, the main goal of this Utah offseason plan was to accumulate as much draft capital as possible & at the same time create over $80 million in cap space for the 2023 offseason where free agents like Lebron James, Kyrie Irving, Dillon Brooks, & Myles Turner will all be available. If the Jazz want to take a year off then compete right away, they can draft Victor Wembanyama along with a couple of other great prospects & land two max contract free agents with the right moves. Or they can embrace the rebuild & build through the draft another couple of years like OKC just did.

Jazz Ideal Starting Lineup:

Quickley, NAW, Vanderbilt, Toppin, & Kessler

Backup Five:

McBride, Grimes, Bolmaro, Paschall, & Birch

Rest Of Bench:

Flynn, Butler, Mykhailiuk, Tillie, & Azubuike
