Cleveland - with the Cavs starting out 12-0, it seems like they are legit. one area of weakness for them is backup big man, as they consistently rely on having one of Allen/Mobley on the floor at all times, or playing lineups with no true big man, usually Dean Wade at the 5. a reunion with Larry Nance could make a ton of sense. he is capable of playing next to Allen/Mobley as well as being the lone 5 in smaller lineups. adds good defensive versatility and solid shooting, as well as being on an expiring contract. once Max Strus is back, Dean Wade can take Niang’s vacated bench shooter spot at PF.
Atlanta - we all know the Hawks aren’t gonna be contenders for awhile, so mind as well shop veterans to pick up long term assets. Niang is just here for salary matching purposes, but Craig Porter Jr could actually be something for them. although it seems like he’s lost his rotation spot to Ty Jerome this year, he had quite the productive rookie season and is under contract for very cheap the next 3 years. not to mention, Atlanta has almost no quality ball handlers outside of Trae Young. getting two 2nd round picks is a decent return for an expiring contract who probably isn’t in their long term plans, and realistically they could press Cleveland to throw in another one or two.
