Why Philadelphia Does This?
With recent reports that Simmons doesn’t intend to show for training camp & play a game again for Philly, the 76ers now have no choice but to trade him. And sadly for them, his value isn’t that high to warrant a Harden type of package. So in this scenario, they get two win now players in Beasley & Barnes that can help Embiid in his quest to take the team to the championship. They also get two valuable firsts from Minnesota that can be used in a potential future trade for a star, like Damian Lillard. I know this deal will probably anger some Sixer fans, but let’s be real, what the absolute best Philadelphia can get from the remaining teams interested in Simmons? I feel this package is good for them in the short term with Beasley & Barnes playing alongside Embiid & in the long term with their news picks & contracts if they want to make a big move for a star.
76ers Ideal Starting Lineup:
Curry, Beasley, Barnes, Harris, & Embiid
Maxey, Thybulle, Green, Niang, & Drummond
Rest Of Bench:
Springer, Milton, Joe, Korkmaz, & Reed
Why Minnesota Does This?
The Timberwolves are in win now mode at this stage of Towns career. They need to do everything they can to make sure he doesn’t request a trade in the near future. Adding a guy like Ben Simmons next to Towns in the front court would do wonders for both of their careers. Simmons brings much needed defense & his high IQ passing game to Minnesota. And the beauty of it for Minnesota, they don’t give up DLo or Edwards in the trade for him. This deal honestly makes the Wolves a playoff team & potential dark horse contender if everything goes well injuries & coaching wise. I would also like to say this. If the Wolves do end up trading for Simmons, he will be the main guy on the team, not Towns or Russell or Edwards. Simmons will be the star of the show. This will be his team & he will run the offense & be the main guy on defense.
Would also like to say that this deal leaves Minnesota with only 10 players on the roster, not counting the two way guys. So with the free agents remaining I’d bring in James Ennis lll, Avery Bradley, Wesley Matthews, Jakarr Sampson, & Demarcus Cousins to round out roster. This gives them the veteran leadership they need to make a serious run at the playoffs.
Wolves Ideal Starting Lineup:
Russell, Edwards, Ennis lll, Simmons, & Towns
Beverley, Nowell, McDaniels, Vanderbilt, & Reid
Rest Of Bench:
Bradley, Matthews, Sampson, Knight, & Cousins
Why Sacramento Does This?
Now this isn’t a must do move for Sacramento. Barnes isn’t a guy that they have to get rid of, even though he is slightly overpaid. But getting a future first, second, & three decent rotational players is a pretty good return for him. I don’t believe the Kings see Barnes as a long term fit on their squad, so being able to add three role players & some picks for him would be a very smart move. Prince is a nice lengthy 3/4 that along with Harkless, would make up for the loss of Barnes. And Okogie & Layman are two good pieces to have come off the bench & provide depth. And like I said previously, this isn’t a trade the Kings have to make as of right now, but it is a smart one if they don’t see Barnes as a part of their future going forward.
Kings Ideal Starting Lineup:
Fox, Haliburton, Harkless, Bagley lll, & Holmes
Mitchell, Hield, Layman, Prince, & Thompson
Rest Of Bench:
Ramsey, Davis, Okogie, Woodard, & Metu/Jones/Len
