SUCCESS

The Magic haven’t been true contenders in a long time. The last time they were in a position to win was with the group around Dwight Howard from 2004-2011. Since then, they have been at best a mediocre franchise, getting no higher than the 7 seed and a first round exit. They now have a true star in the making once again in Paolo Banchero, who is doing things not done by a rookie since LeBron James. It seems like this time around, it might just work. What if the front office decides to accelerate that, widening the championship window for this core? This series explores how the Magic could become true contenders for the 2023 championship.

Why the Bulls do this:

The Bulls should be in rebuilding mode. They aren’t going to contend this year, and if their pick is top 4, they keep it, meaning that they should be able to draft a top prospect if they’re bad enough. This trade gets rid of some older players that won’t improve for them, saving a bit of cash to be given to a new coach and bringing in some second round picks to be moved later on.

Bulls lineups:

Relatively unchanged

Why the Magic do this:

The Magic get rid of Terrence Ross who has never been very valuable for them. In exchange, they get several solid roleplayers: another backup big man in Drummond, a great defensive combo guard in Caruso, and a solid backup guard in Dragic. I feel like these few assets complete the Magical rise into a contending team.

Magic lineups:

The Grand Finale is coming soon, stay tuned
