Comment Opinions Please. Is This Fair?

Shout out to tcpride23 for the idea!

First things first, either move on completely from Miles Bridges or resign him to a two year deal worth the minimum (non-guaranteed), since he probably won’t play the first season due to off the court issues.

Trade 1

CHA: John Collins

ATL: Kelly Oubre, Mason Plumlee, 2023 DEN 1st(Lottery Protected), & 2024 NYK 2nd

Why? : With Bridges basketball career in question & Washington not developing as quickly as the Hornets would like, a trade for John Collins makes a ton of sense in order to give LaMelo a legit lob threat & secondary option. Collins is an above average defender at his position & is an excellent communicator on that side of the court, which new head coach Steve Clifford will obviously like.

Charlotte could potentially receive Bridges back sometime into the future whether that be late this season or the start of next season & start him at the SF spot next to Johnson. Talking purely basketball, a team with Bridges, Collins, & recently drafted Mark Williams around LaMelo would be a very fun team to watch.

For Atlanta, they receive two nice rotational players in Oubre Jr & Plumlee that are on expiring contracts along with a 1st in the loaded 2023 draft class & a future 2nd. Both of these guys can contribute valuable minutes off the bench. This isn’t a bad return for the Hawks in my opinion since Collins value has been slowly decreasing the past couple of years & hit an All-Time low right before the 2022 NBA Draft.

Trade 2

CHA: Jordan McLaughlin

MIN: Nick Richards & 2023 Least Favorable 2nd via OKC, WAS, DAL, or MIA

Why? : In order to land a talented backup point guard behind LaMelo who can run the offense & make plays for others. I was really impressed by McLaughlin’s ability to work the pick & roll with Towns & Reid in Minnesota. He could definitely do more of the same thing with Collins, Williams, & Washington in Charlotte.

The Timberwolves I believe consider this because they receive an extra 2nd in the upcoming draft class & open up minutes for guys like Rivers, Forbes, Nowell, & Moore Jr. They also receive a young forward in Nick Richards who can push rookie Josh Minott for whatever minutes are remaining in the rotation.

Free Agent Additions

Facundo Campazzo

Josh Jackson

Luka Garza

Why? : Simply put, there are three roster spots left & these three guys are all still available right now. Campazzo is a nice veteran who can help LaMelo develop even further while Jackson & Garza need new homes to show the league if they’ve improved their games or not.

All in all, the main idea of this plan was to keep Charlotte as competitive as possible without giving up their young guys or too much draft capital. If LaMelo Ball can take the next step in his game & Gordon Hayward can stay relatively healthy, I can see this team with John Collins being an actual playoff team(6th seed) & not just a low seeded play-in hopeful. But those are both size-able ifs. And we also have to take into consideration how well the Hornets youth will do. Is James Bouknight ready for 20 minutes a game? Can Mark Williams bang with other big men? How will Kai Jones be used?

Hornets Ideal Starting Lineup:

Ball, Rozier, Hayward, Collins, & Williams

Backup Five:

McLaughlin, Bouknight, Martin, Washington, & Jones

Rest Of Bench:

Campazzo, Jackson, McDaniels, Thor, & Garza
