Trade Breakdown:

HOU Deals: Gordon

To WAS For: Bertans & Gill

HOU Then Sends: Wall, Gill, 2023 Lottery Protected 1st via MIL, & 2024 2nd

To OKC For: Favors & Deck

Why Houston Does This?

They get off of Wall & Gordon’s contract & fix their logjam at the guard position. This allows the backcourt duo of KPJ & Green to take over the franchise. In return for Gordon, the Rockets land Bertans, who even though is overpaid, is a better fit on this team as a backup behind Wood. He’s a nice shooter to have around KPJ & Green. Another big reason why I feel Houston would do this is because they save $33M by trading away Wall to the Thunder for Favors & Deck. Yes, they have to give up a late 1st & future 2nd, but I believe that’s totally worth it to fix up their roster long term. Favors is a nice veteran big man off the bench that can mentor Sengun & Garuba for the time being. And Deck is a nice international player that could potentially crack the rotation.

Rockets Ideal Starting Lineup:

KPJ, Green, Tate, Wood, & Theis

Backup Five:

Thomas, Nwaba, House, Bertans, & Sengun

Rest Of Bench:

Augustine, Christopher, Martin Jr, Garuba/Deck, & Favors

Why Washington Does This?

The main reason why the Wizards do this is to clear up their logjam at the PF/C positions. They are stacked there. At PF, they’ve already got Hachimura, Kuzma, & Todd. At C, they have Gafford, Bryant, & Harrell. There is simply no room for Bertans. That’s why bringing in Gordon for him as a veteran guard to come off the bench would be a smart move. He’s got one year less on his contract & can still contribute as a solid veteran 3 & D player.

Wizards Ideal Starting Lineup:

Dinwiddie, Beal, Avdija, Hachimura, & Gafford

Backup Five:

Neto, KCP, Gordon, Kuzma, & Bryant

Rest Of Bench:

Winston, Holiday, Kispert, Todd, & Harrell

Why Oklahoma City Does This?

Easy, they acquire another first/second to use in their ongoing rebuild. With Wall, they’ll have multiple options. They can either buy him out like they did with Kemba. Or they can keep him & try to improve his value like they did with CP3. Would Wall want to stay in OKC with all the young guys? Probably not, so a buyout would be the most likely option.

Thunder Ideal Starting Lineup:

Wall, SGA, Giddey, Poku, & Bazley

Backup Five:

Maledon, Maan, Dort, Roby, & Earl

Rest Of Bench:

Jerome, Brown Jr, Williams, Gill, & Muscala
