WHY ROCKETS DO IT:
They trade the NUMBER ONE PICK for Zion because nobody on this draft is on paper as good as him, that's why they add Tate and don't get the full return of Wood.
Next year with Wall and Gordon off the books, they can pay Zion and KPJ. Having cap flexibility will be even more important next year with the new CBA
Starting 5: KPJ, Green, somebody (pick 18?), Zion, Sengun
Zion is a risk of course, but if healthy they would have a bright future.
WHY PELS DO IT:
Tate and Chet/Jabari for an expiring guy who doesn't want to be there is pretty fair.
Starting 5: CJ, Ingram, Herb, number 1 pick, Jonas
Others: Devonte, pick 9, Tate, Murphy, Nance, Hayes
WHY PISTONS DO IT:
They have been trying trading Grant for a while now, but nobody seems interested enough to pull the trigger. So, instead of getting an "assets package", they get another player, older but better and still expiring.
They can then trade Vucevic at the deadline, I'm pretty sure a contender would be more interested in him than Grant. Then, they also get White they can extend in the summer.
WHY BULLS DO IT:
Is Vucevic better than those 2 players? Yes, although he is not the best version of himself. Is he better than those 2 combined?. No, at least not anymore. They get a replacement, Wood, who's a similar player and not THAT worse; then they get Grant who would be the final piece of their starting 5. They'd be also way younger.
Starting 5: Lonzo, LaVine, DDR, Grant, Wood.
