Why Brooklyn Does This?

With there being no legit market for Kevin Durant, especially at the value Brooklyn is asking for, it’s probably best for the Nets to bite the bullet & keep their two superstars around for another shot at a title run. However, if Brooklyn is leaning towards keeping their star duo & going for it all, they’ll still be a piece away, & that piece as of right now is a starting caliber center. This trade here gives Brooklyn one of the best defensive centers in the league. Jakob Poeltl is someone who can take a bunch of pressure off his teammates defensively with his above average rim protection at 7’1. Not only does he bring defense though, but excellent rebounding as well, bringing in 9 boards a game. He’s also a great screener & lob threat for Ben Simmons to work with in the pick & roll game.

A concern people might have with this deal is that the Nets are trading a shooter for a non-shooter, but they’re actually receiving a shooter back in return to make this deal work salary wise. Doug McDermott shot over 42% from deep last season & would be a solid replacement for Joe Harris in the rotation. He’ll definitely be a nice piece to come off the bench & provide spacing for Ben Simmons.

Other Roster Moves

  • Resign Blake Griffin

  • Resign LaMarcus Aldridge

Nets Ideal Starting Lineup:

Irving, Curry, Durant, Simmons, & Poeltl

Backup Five:

Mills, McDermott, Warren, O’Neale, & Claxton

Rest Of Bench:

Sumner, Thomas, Edwards, Griffin, & Aldridge

Why San Antonio Does This?

In order to fully commit to their tank job for Victor Wembanyama. Jakob Poeltl would undoubtedly contribute to a solid number of wins with his defensive & rebounding abilities. In this three team deal, the Spurs acquire multiple future draft picks, including a first rounder, along with a young big man in Day’Ron Sharpe. This is pretty fair compensation in my opinion for San Antonio. Poeltl brings them a 1st plus a young player while the Harris-Bertans swap nets them another two 2nds. A move like this puts the Spurs in a great spot going forward with a very bright future to look ahead to. If they land Wembanyama, they’d create an amazing defensive front court with him in Sochan. They’ll have plenty of guard depth as well in Jones, Primo, Branham, & Wesley along with two solid forwards in Vassell & Johnson.

Spurs Ideal Starting Lineup:

Jones, Vassell, Johnson, Sochan, & Collins

Backup Five:

Branham, Wesley, Primo, Roby, & Sharpe

Rest Of Bench:

Richardson, Langford, Bates-Diop, Bertans, & Dieng

Why Dallas Does This?

They get off Davis Bertans contract & bring in a different shooter who can actually play in the postseason. Joe Harris would be a much better fit on this squad, with the Mavericks already having a loaded front court consisting of Christian Wood, Maxi Kleber, JaVale McGee, & Dwight Powell. Harris is a career 44% shooter from deep & would be a tremendous addition to this squad around Luka. He can either start alongside Luka or come off the bench as that offensive spark.

Other Roster Moves

  • Sign Ed Davis

Mavericks Ideal Starting Lineup:

Doncic, Hardaway Jr, Finney-Smith, Wood, & McGee

Backup Five:

Dinwiddie, Harris, Bullock, Kleber, & Powell

Rest Of Bench:

Ntilikina, Hardy, Pinson, Green, & Davis
