Interesting scenario for Cavs and Pels

SUCCESS

Pelicans

+3 players ($20.1m) +4 picks,
Cap Impact - $20.3M

-1  Wins

-1.11  MPG

+1.28  Off.

-3.11  Def.

WHY SPURS DO IT:

Both Doug and Thad are expendables and for also taking Love's contract (just next year) they get FIVE 2022 seconds. They could also get some $$$ but now we don't care.

Summarizing they now have SEVEN 2022 seconds: HOU, OWN, CLE, SAC, DET, UTH, LAL. With pretty good chances, they could have 31 and 32. Plus theirs and SAC who won't be much worse. Cavs one will be a mid-second and 2 late seconds, perfect for 2 stashes.

WHY PELS DO IT:

They take advantage of their bad record: they had a rough start also because of injuries, so why not letting Zion get in shape calmly? Sexton is out for the season too.

Let's pretend they are not lucky enough to get Holmgren (who would be perfect for Zion IMO), they land 5th and get Ivey. Then, they also have Cavs pick, that should be a play in pick, they get Baldwin with (or they could easily trade up to get him with their future picks).

Starting 5: Sexton, NAW, Hart, Zion, Valanciunas

Second Unit: Kira, Ivey, Baldwin, McBuckets, Hayes

Ivey and Baldwin comparisons are Wade and MPJ, so if they can get both they could be scary in a few years.

They also have a possible a swap in 2023 and 2 very tasty ones in 2024-25.

WHY CAVS DO IT:

They make a big move and replace Sexton's max with a player they need more. They also give a big contract to Rubio for 1 season to try a playoffs push before paying Garland and letting the spaniard go.

They don't pay luxury this and next year.

Starting 5: Rubio, Garland, Ingram, Mobley, Allen

Second Unit: Graham, Okoro, Osman, Wade, Markkanen

If they keep on improving, I don't see why they can't be a top 6 team in 2023.
