I’m not a fan of either team and don’t follow them all that closely, but on the surface, I kind of like this move both teams.
I think the move would be really good for Charlotte, I really believe it’s paramount for the development of young “franchise cornerstone” players, like Brandon Miller to log some meaningful minutes playing playoff basketball. So many young players come into this league and by the time their first contract is over, they haven’t really learned how to win or what it takes to win in the playoffs. Tanking can get you the young talent requisite for winning; However, if a team is perennially losing, their prized young players never really learn how to win and it often hinders their overall development.
I think this swap would help the Hornets and at the very least, next season, Young would likely lead them to the play-in tournament (if not the playoffs outright) and would give Miller & whomever the Hornets select in the lottery this summer a chance to play some meaningful basketball into the early spring.
Conversely, the Hawks My feel the need to make a big change in the back court, perhaps they feel Young Has taken them as far as he’s going to go.
A Ball/Daniels backcourt pairing to go with ZR, Johnson, and Okongwu as the other three starters, Could be really fun and I think they’d really complement each other. Lots of length and back court and at the wings with Okongwu behind them. At the team that could theoretically, be a lot of fun and defense and play with a lot of pace. They’d definitely have to bolster the bench and find some complimentary shooters. However, that starting five could be the nucleus of a really fun (and possibly good) basketball team.
Again, that’s all my opinion and I could be way off. Curious what Hawks and Hornets fans have to think.
