City Never Sleeps: Weekly Knicks Article | Young Guys and Reggie Bullock.

Hello Knicks fans and other fans on Fanspo, this article is about the Knicks general rotation and minutes distribution towards the bottom of the depth chart, focusing on the young guys. Plus, a little bonus stat discussion on Reggie Bullock last year. Here is all that!

The Young Guys

The bottom of the Knicks rotation is very interesting, and seeing how the minutes spread between Immanuel Quickley, Obi Toppin, Deuce McBride, Quentin Grimes, and even Jericho Sims will be a great thing to monitor this year.

That list of players is pretty good, and that’s only the bottom of the Knicks rotation. Evidently, the Knicks are one of the deepest teams in the NBA, and have some high upside swings.

It’s pretty obvious who the top of that list is in IQ. He made all-rookie second team, (He was robbed of first team in my eyes by Jae-Sean Tate) and averaged about 11.4 PPG, 2.1 RPG and exactly 2 APG, in only 19.4 minutes per game. Those numbers are impressive, especially for a 20s draft pick. I do expect his assist numbers to go up though, you could see that the Knicks coaching wanted to test him at PG in summer league. He also averaged 38.9% from three which you can expect a jump from this year. Overall, I think he is bound to be a longtime player in the NBA.

Second on the list in my opinion is Obi Toppin. He struggled in the beginning of the year, which was surprising to some people because he was speculated to be one of the most skilled players coming out of the draft, being one of the older guys. He only averaged 4.1 PPG, 2.2 RPG, 0.5 APG. He did underperform but he really improved later in the year. And many people saw the alley-oop in the playoffs, when he really showed what he was capable of. If what we saw in the playoffs was consistently what we see this regular season, I will be very happy, and he will be a bigger part of the team. Even though the Knicks just signed Randle to a big deal, I see him being loved by fans, and being a part of the team for years to come.

Next up is Quentin Grimes (25th Pick) and Deuce McBride (34th Pick) and Jericho Sims (58th Pick). I know I am leaving out Rokas Jokubaitis (36th Pick) but he will be playing overseas this year. Grimes is a combo guard who initially went to Kansas but he underperformed and transferred to Houston. He averaged 17.8 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 2 APG in 32.8 MPG. You can’t really judge college stats but overall I would like to see more assists. Deuce McBride is a 6-2 point guard who played for West Virginia. He has lots of upside and was a steal at the place he was taken. At WV he averaged 15.9 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 4.8 APG in 34.2 MPG. Those stats are pretty impressive, 4.8 assists is not bad for not having a lot of go-to guys, he also overwhelmed people on the inside and played with intensity. His best trait is his defense in a sort of Davion Mitchell way he never stops on defense and harasses people. He is a good point guard with starting upside. Jericho Sims is a bouncy big from Texas. There are so many of those types at Texas. He averaged 9.2 PPG, 7.2 RPG and 0.7 APG. He is a great rebounder and a great lob threat. There isn’t much to say about him, I believe he will be spending most of his time in the g-league barring an injury from a big. Overall, the Knicks have a great collection of youngsters with lots of upside.

Reggie Bullock

Reggie Bullock was a great regular season 3&D off guard who started 64 games last season. He averaged 10.9 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 1.5 APG in 30 MPG. Those numbers are good, some of the best in his career. With a career high in rebounds. Although he fell apart in the playoffs and couldn’t dribble past Trae Young, while Trae was hidden on him. If Evan Fournier was there, he probably would have smoked him. He was a great shooter with splits of 44.2 FG%, 41 3PT% and 90.9 FT%. He shot very well from three and from the line but he was not good from inside. He was a fan favorite! Hopefully, along with Frank and KP, he will have a great year in Dallas!
