Why for NY? 20m of cap cleared after the season and 2 draft picks acquired for a player who is clearly not happy right now and seems to need a change of scenery. Thibs also gets a look at Paschall and Azubuike while adding a locker room leader in Ingles, who despite entering the twilight of his career, could fit this roster like a glove in a role similar to the one Taj Gibson is currently playing as a player/developmental coach. Randle's absence most importantly clears minutes for Cam Reddish and Obi Toppin to get time to develop.

Why for the Kings? Sacramento has been rumored to be after Randle for a while now and here they get the opportunity to acquire him while buying low. Pick is protected for next year incase they still suck (possible) but the trade is made with intention that they wouldn't and that bringing in a player of this caliber would significantly increase their chances to make the playoffs in 2023, or at minimum the play-in. Randle can't play any worse than he is in NY and having the burden of the New York media (and fanbase) off his shoulders might do him wonders,

Why for the Jazz? Ingles has been a shell of himself this season leaving the Jazz desperate in need players capable of playing rotation minutes on the wing in important games. While Ingles is loved in Salt Lake by the organization and fans, his 13m expiring contract is one of the only attractive trade chips left on this roster not named Donovan Mitchell. As rumors swirl about Spida's eventual departure, the Jazz need to make a move to show him they intend on doing whatever it takes to keep a championship roster around him. Pick is protected because the Jazz are capped on picks they can trade and would probably have hesitancy on sending out anything that would jeopardize their future without bringing a true star back in return.
