This 3 way trade relies on a couple things: One that the Lakers (and Lebron and Davis) decide that they're not willing to waste another year trying but failing to contend AND wearing down Lebron and Davis another year so they decide to deal a pick to get Westbrook off the team. AND that Randle improves on his performance from last year. Now I didn't say returns to his All star year, I want to clarify that it's improvement. With that said, here's why I think it works for each: Knicks: you clear time for Obi and truly invest in the youth movement. You also do this to get more draft capital. The Knicks case is the easiest to make (can you tell I'm a Knicks fan). Lakers: Again, a big part is what's above but this does improve their team and make things more well rounded. Fournier (although on a large contract) brings excellent 3 point shooting and some playmaking ability. The Lakers are desperately missing 3 point shooting and Fournier is one of the best. Bullock is also a good 3 point shooter and is a solid defender. Dwight Powell is mainly here because he gives them some expiring money (in addition to $8 million in savings) although he could be a nice depth piece. This also keeps around some money for Kyrie if they decide to take a run next year. The sticking point is definitely the first round pick but I still think they do it. Mavs: The Mavs are in a tough position. They had a great last year but lost a key piece in Brunson. This team is now missing playmaking and already needs some help on the boards. Randle brings all of that. He's consistently put up numbers like 20 points and 10 rebounds and would add anywhere from 4-5 assists per game as well. If he puts up those numbers relatively efficiently? He would be a force. He'd also have to put in actual effort on defense and be closer to the 2020-21 season. He'd also have to adjust to deferring to Doncic but Doncic is so good I think Randle would do it. Plus he always plays great in Dallas, now they can benefit. The sticking point would be the first round pick. I top 5 protected it but perhaps it might need to be at least top 10. They like Bullock but he's not so good or important that he's the sticking point. As for Powell? They have way too many centers and he was likely going to be last on that list.
