After the Wood trade, the Mavs only have two real assets left that can be appealing to other teams for a trade: 2026 and 2028 FRP. Assuming JB resigns (as heavily suggested by Marc Stein) our roster will have a total cap of 180M and that's without taking into account the 4 roster spots we now have to fill out.

I know we've all been claiming that Cuban has been saving up money for a while now by not going into the tax, but I think even we can admit a 180+ cap would be ridiculous. Making us the most expensive team by a bit. Hence I think either Bertans or THJ have to leave, and unfortunately that isn't happening without attaching at least 1 FRP. That means realistically we only have one other FRP to use for a 'bigger trade'. Coincidentally the Pacers are the team that best suits this trade because of THJ and Rick's experience, their cap space and the potential interest they could have in moving up the draft and taking the Kings pick. The Pacers also have our biggest transfer target in Myles Turner.

Hence this trade would actually split into 2:

1.DP and JG as salary fillers, one being an expiring and the other still being a v young player, + a FRP and a second.

2.THJ a FRP and a second pick

I think THJ is a lot less of a bad contract to the Pacers than the Mavs. He can up his value in a rebuilding team and has a decreasing contract that could be quite useful as a trade package in a couple of years when the Pacers start to look towards winning.

Obviously you'd imagine Pacers could possibly get better offers for Turner, but didn't we think the same about Wood? Turner's injury concerns could make other teams wary + he's a Dallas native and has been continuously been showing up at the AAC recently.

My main point about this that I don't see the Mavs not trading away either Bertans or THJ's contract, and to do so we'd probably be left barely a FRP and Powell and Green which is quite scary.
