NBA Draft Combine Scrimmages Preview

I apologize for not posting this earlier. I had every intention to, but I got too busy at work. I haven’t been able to watch any of the scrimmages yet so this still truly is a preview.

Here is the links to the rosters for all four teams as well as when each scrimmage will be played.

https://www.si.com/fannation/nba/fastbreak/.amp/draft/heres-the-full-list-of-players-scheduled-to-play-in-the-scrimmages-at-the-2022-draft-combine-in-chicago

The Best Team Is…

In my opinion the best team is Team Weaver. They have guards like Rollins, Smith, and Sasser who can all score in bunches. They also have a true floor general PG in Nembhard. They have some experience at the forward spots with guys like Mayer, Walker, and Wilson. They also have 2 very talented but raw players in Miller and Butler Jr. They have an experienced college big man in Cockburn as well as a offensively versatile center in Robinson.

Guys I’m Surprised To See Participating and Not Participating

The guy who I am most surprised to see participating is Leonard Miller. Depending on how he performs he could drastically change his draft stock. For a guy who was thought to be a consensus FRP this seems to be a very risky choice. If I’m being honest I can see the reasoning for pretty much everyone else participating as they seemingly have nothing to lose.

I’m surprised that we don’t see at least one of Dalen Terry and Christian Koloko participating. If I’m not mistaken both were invited to the combine. It seems like they would both have something to gain by showing they can produce outside of Arizonas excellent offensive system. I’m also surprised we don’t see any of the Duke guys participating. Outside of Banchero, Griffin, and Williams I think they could all stand to prove they can produce at a higher level when given more of an oppurtunity.

One Player To Watch From Each Team

The player for Team Johnson to watch for is Josh Minott. He is an uber athletic forward who should be a defensive force. He didn’t receive very many minutes at Memphis for seemingly no reason as he was very productive when he was on the floor. He also posted some pretty impressive measurables already at the combine. Now he just needs to put it all together on the court.

The player for Team Erman to watch is Jean Montero. After essentially playing against strictly high school competition this year at OTE he needs to prove he can play well against high level competition. As a guy who I have a mid second round grade on he might be able to move up into the late first round conversation with a couple of good scrimmage performances.

The player for Team Curry is Scotty Pippen Jr. Despite putting up good and decently efficient numbers at Vanderbilt Pippen Jr. isn’t really being regarded as a draftable prospect this year. Part of this is due to concerns with his size, role, and ability to perform against NBA level competition consistently. If he continues to score the ball well and shows improvements as a passer and defender he could see himself sneak into the mid-late second round pick conversation.

Last but not least, the player for Team Weaver to watch is Leonard Miller. The 6’10 wing is already a polarizing prospect due to his size and fluidity alone. If he shows any, and I mean any good flashes in the scrimmages you can fully expect him to rocket up draft boards. Athletic 6’10 wings that move as fluid as he does just don’t grow on trees.
