Reports are that Jordan might get bought out soon, and he’s proven himself to be borderline unplayable at times. For the low price of a future 2nd, the Nets get to swap him out for a slightly younger and better backup center. Claxton (or Griffin in smaller lineups) should get the majority of the big man minutes, and Bruce Brown, James Johnson, Alize Johnson, or Day’Ron Sharpe could figure into that rotation as well. Still though, Favors would give them a true rim protector with the size and strength to bang with guys like Embiid or Giannis that the Nets will likely have to face to get out of the East. Favors had his own struggles in the playoffs this year, but he’s far more viable than Jordan, and the cost isn’t too prohibitive, so it makes sense for the Nets to give themselves more lineup flexibility rather than just buy Jordan out and let him walk for nothing. If there was a better deal for Jordan (like for Thaddeus Young for example), that would be preferable, but the Nets have been trying to move him for a while to no avail, so something like this might be the best they’ll get.

For the Thunder, they get to swap one guy who isn’t in their plans (and has minimal trade value) for another guy who isn’t in their plans, but they get to add a pick. They’re essentially just paying a few hundred thousand bucks to get a free 2nd, and Sam Presti takes that deal 10 times out of 10!
