A trade that creates better fits and situations for each team and player involved…

The Celtics are on the cusp, facing the Warriors in the NBA Finals. They don’t have a true PG and that will get exposed in this series, becoming their top offseason priority. Entering the Malcolm Brogdon sweepstakes, they’ll likely need a third team to appeal to the Pacers. Giving up Derrick White, who is effectively a 6th man off the bench and a future protected 1st rounder is a good price for your starting PG in Brogdon. Boston should jump at the chance for this deal.

The Pacers need to end their PG situation before it becomes a situation. They already went through the pain of trying to make Turner and Sabonis work. Don’t do it again with the backcourt. Hand it over to Haliburton and move on from Brogdon. What they do need are wings, and preferably wings who can shoot. Bogdan Bogdanovic would be a great fit for this. Not only is this a pretty fair swap for a better fit, but the salary cap also comes down by $4.6 million. That’s good news for the potential of taking on bad contracts for draft capital. This also fits the mold of continuing to rebuild while appeasing Herb Simon with a semi-competitive team.

The Hawks know Bogdanovic doesn’t fit into their future plans. He only started 27 games this year and saw more minutes handed to Huerter. At his $18 million salary, he’s an expensive bench piece they can cash in on now. In return, they would receive an intriguing piece for their backcourt. Derrick White was at his best in San Antonio playing alongside Dejounte Murray. He’d have that dynamic again with a versatile PG in Trae Young. Tap it off with a protected first round pick, the Hawks would gain multiple pieces for their future in the trade.
