Trade #1: Danny Green and Furkan Korkmaz for Marcus Morris
Why do the Clippers do this? They just resigned Robert Covington to a 2 Yr/$24 million contract. Along with that, they also have Nic Batum still on the roster. Morris becomes expendable. Danny Green's non-guaranteed contract makes this more appeasing for the Clippers. They clear major tax money.
Why do the 76ers do this? As you'll see in later trades, this trade fills the void at the 4. Morris brings a grittiness that this team desperately needs.
Trade #2: Tobias Harris, Matisse Thybulle, and Jaden Springer to Orlando; Jonathan Isaac and Terrence Ross to Sacramento; Harrison Barnes, Richaun Holmes and the 23rd pick to Golden State; Andrew Wiggins and the 28th pick to Philly
Why do the Magic do this? They need more help on the wing. With Franz Wagner, Chuma Okeke, WCJ, and the 1st overall pick (likely to be Jabari Smith or Chet) all in the front court, the Magic are OK with moving Isaac. They get better perimeter defense in Matisse. Springer is thrown in for taking on Harris' deal. Springer is a project who the Magic could develop or flip. Given they have so much cap space, the 76ers target Orlando to dump Harris, and they succeed in doing so, giving up Matisse and Springer to do so.
Why do the Kings do this? For one, Holmes is better than a backup. Sabonis is the team's starting 5, so they need to find Holmes a new home given that he is a starting caliber center in this league. Secondly, Barnes is on an expiring deal. While he may resign, it may better to move him to a contender in favor of someone younger and on a controllable contract. Enter Jonathan Isaac. Isaac would fit in great at the 4 next to Sabonis, taking on the tougher matchups so Sabonis can stay fresh on the offensive end.
Why do the Warriors do this? While Andrew Wiggins is vital to the team's success, Barnes is only a few years older and in his prime. He is going to demand much less money than Wiggins will when they both hit free agency next summer. This is important considering the Warriors will need to bring back Poole and Gary Payton as well.
Why do the 76ers do this? Andrew Wiggins would be a great 3 for this team. His defense and shot creation would work exceptionally well between Maxey and Embiid.
