Analysis: This year’s tier 1 doesn’t have a JaMarr Chase or Jaylen Waddle or even a Devonta Smith at the top, but that top four is very talented. All of Tier 1 can be a number one and will make an immediate impact, likely being the 2nd or 3rd pass catching option from Day 1. Williams is the most talented of the group, and Drake London’s ball skills are second to none. However, both sustained somewhat big injuries and it remains to be seen how that impacts their games. Chris Olave and Garrett Willson were OSU teammates and complimented each other well as Willson was the YAC guy while Olave was reliable in the slot. Tier 2 is just Burks as he will almost certainly be a first rounder, but he is a step or two behind those in Tier 1. Tier 3 is your second rounders with one or two going in the 1st/3rd round. Watson and Metchie are my favorite receiver prospects and I believe have skill sets conducive to NFL success. Tier 4 features our 3rd and 4th round prospects. All these guys have knocks but also something elite that sets them apart. David Bell - Slow but wins at POA; Calvin Austin - Fast but small; Wan’Dale Robinson - Fast but production lacking; Kyle Phillips - reliable but low ceiling; Alec Pierce - Good hands but lacked productivity; Justyn Ross - Elite talent but bad in college minus freshman year. A couple of those guys will be impactful and will have long, quality NFL careers. Tier 5 is my high end Day 3 picks. Many are higher on Doubs and Shakir than I am but it is what it is; I don’t trust either of them at all. Tier 6 is my “Raw athlete” section where a great coaching staff could mold these guys into something. This is the true “boom-or-bust” portion where if the coaching staff doesn’t see the necessary improvements, the player could be gone and gone fast. Conversely, drafting players like this can and has worked out in team’s favor in the past. The best value at receiver is at Tier 3 in my opinion as the dropoff between, say Garrett Willson and Skyy Moore is a lot closer than most think. I would say worst value is actually Tier 1 since, like I just noted, the depth and value you can find Day 2 makes choosing a Tier 1 guy foolish in my opinion unless the front office LOVES the guy or unless he fits the scheme perfectly (Drake London to Philly is an example of this or Chris Olave to NE).
