Coach Smith: This will be our first official practice of the season. We will have practices every other day until school starts in one week. Today we will just be doing scrimmages. Is that clear?

Team: Yes sir

Coach: You guys will do stretches with your position groups and then you will get your teams

Ray Oliver: You guys excited for the season?

Darnell Brown: Of course. I can’t wait to start

Louis “Pancake” Smith! Imma win the starting job

Ray Oliver: Just because your the coaches son doesn’t mean you’ll win the starting job

Pancake: We’ll see

Coach Smith: Each of you will take reps with the first and second team offense. Two of you will be on the field at a time and the other will be next to me

PS: Ok dad

CS: call me coach. Now drop and give me 20

PS: yes coach

CS: Ray will be starting with the first team and Darnell will be starting with the second team.

RO: Yes sir

Teams for scrimmage

CS: Each team will start with the ball at their own 20 unless there is a turnover. If you decide to punt, we will move the ball 40 yards downfield and the other team will start there. If the ball is inside the 40 and you decide to punt, the other team will get the ball at the 10. A touchdown =7 points and if you attempt a field goal, the kicker will be out there with the holder and himself. Is that clear?

After the scrimmage:

RO: I played bad today

Roman Campos: You weren’t that bad

RO: You’re just saying that because I threw to you every other play

RC: You earned the backup QB job.

RO: Your right. I’ll also get the job next year once Darnell leaves

RC: Unless Pancake gets the job

RO: It’s just that I waited two years to get the job, and then this transfer from Kentucky comes along and now I’m the backup again. And coaches son is on the team so he’ll likely get the job in my senior year

RC: Let’s stop talking about this and let’s get some Carly’s

Just so y’all know, Carly’s is a made up ice cream place.

RO: Ok let’s hop in my car.

RC: Ok. Next time I’ll take you to practice.

RO: Should I ask Teddy if he wants to come

RC: Definetly

RO: He said he can come. Let’s go ahead and drive

Ten minutes later:

Teddy Kristoffer: Hey guys

RO: How’s my least favorite kicker doing?

TK: Amazing. How’s my least favorite QB doing?

RO: Mid. I lost the Qb battle

RC: You just gotta believe your the best QB and you will be

TK: real. And your day might get better because look who’s coming…
