Comment Opinions Please. Is This Good?
1) Hire Eric Bieniemy As The New Head Coach
Explanation: Eric Bieniemy not only deserves a hearing coaching job in the NFL, but also a chance to develop & mentor one of the top quarterbacks available in the draft. This is Houston’s chance to right their past wrongs of firing two African American head coaches after only one season.
2) Trade Away Brandin Cooks For A 5th Rounder
Explanation: Brandin Cooks reportedly wants out & isn’t willing to be a veteran on an up & coming team in the midst of a rebuild. It would be smart to let loose of any distractions before Bieniemy’s head coaching tenure begins.
3) Sign WR Juju Smith-Schuster
4) Sign WR Allen Lazard
Explanation: With a new young quarterback coming in, Houston will need to provide him some nice WR’s to throw to. Juju Smith-Schuster & Allen Lazard are both pieces who can potentially flourish as a number one & two receiver on a rebuilding squad.
5) Sign C Ethan Pocic
6) Sign G Dalton Risner
Explanation: As we all now know, a good offensive line is a must for a young quarterback to succeed right away. Just look at Joe Burrow in his first season & Justin Fields in his last two, both mightily struggled & ended the year hurt. Ethan Pocic & Dalton Risner are the top free agents available at their respective positions & should definitely get paid. They can form an outstanding line alongside Laremy Tunsil that can allow Dameon Pierce to become a Top 5 running back in the league.
7) Sign Jadeveon Clowney
8) Sign Lavonte David
Explanation: Houston ranked 30th in the league defensively this year & really let the team down in end of game situations. Acquiring veteran defensive pieces should be a priority, so both Jadeveon Clowney & Lavonte David would be great additions to the team that can help mentor the younger guys.
9) Resign Ogbonnia Okoronwko, Taylor Stallworth, Derek Rivers, Kevin Pierre-Lewis, Royce Freeman, Scott Quessenberry, OJ Howard, & Jordan Aikins
Explanation: What many people & teams really undervalue when rebuilding is at the same time building chemistry. Up & coming teams should really try to resign their starters & not lose them for nothing in the offseason. Even though Houston had a poor defense this season, guys like Okoronwko, Stallworth, Rivers, & Pierre Lewis should all be resigned for another stint with a new head coaching staff. Offensively, OJ Howard & Jordan Aikins were both bright spots on a bad team & should definitely be kept alongside other offensive pieces such as Royce Freeman & Scott Quessenberry as well.
10) Draft CJ Stroud With The #2 Pick
11) Draft Nolan Smith With The #12 Pick
12) Draft CB Jaylon Jones With The #33 Pick
Explanation: Since I had Indianapolis trading up to the number one overall pick to draft Young in my previous Chicago Bears offseason plan, Houston will select QB CJ Stroud with the number two overall pick in the NFL Draft. Allowing new head coach Eric Bieniemy to work with such a young & high potential quarterback will do wonders for the Texans long term. As for their next picks, Houston was very poor defensively this year like I said above & and should target players on that side of the ball with their other 1st & 2nd round pick. Nolan Smith was absolutely great in Georgia’s championship run & Jaylon Jones upside is something to really take a chance on.
What do you guys think of all these moves?
Does this plan potentially make Houston a wild card playoff team next season?
Who would you guys target in the NFL Draft with the Texans three 3rd rounders?
