Analysis: The top two edge rushers this year are, in my opinion, two of the three best prospects in this draft along with Ikem Ekwonu. Both look to be truly elite rushers that will be on a Chase Young-esqe crash course. Tier 2 is where I’ll get a lot of slack. One of my biggest questions this draft is: why are Travon Walker and Jeramine Johnson (both of whom had limited production at Georgia) being chosen ahead of Jordan Davis, Nakobe Dean, Devontae Wyatt, or Lewis Cine, the guys that did produce at Georgia? Nobody can answer this. I still think Johnson and Walker’s athleticism makes them better prospects than Karlaftis and company, but I would never use a top 5 pick on either of these guys. Tier 3 is Karlaftis and Ojabo, and they both are first round level prospects from a production standpoint, but have one big weakness (arm length or injury). Tier 4 is a lot of boarderline first round into second round rushers. These guys are either great traits and meh production or vise versa. I especially like Nik Bonitto out of this group. There isn’t anything splashy about him, but he consistently creates pressure and will be able to do so in the NFL with his speed and twitch off the edge. Tier 5 is my “meh” prospects that aren’t quite Day 3 guys but that I don’t love or hate, just “meh”. Tier 6 and 7 are Day 3 guys that have some really good potential in a variety of ways and schemes. I’d expect us to look back on this draft in a few years and see a few of these guys as legit NFL starters. The best value of this draft is Tier 4 in my opinion as these guys are kind of like everyone on the Miami Heat bench: great in their roles, don’t do too much, but are really good at what they do. Worst value to me is in Tier 5 as they are just “meh”.
