i found it difficult to find good film on Traore. a lot of his film was from multiple years prior, and there was only one highlight tape i saw from this year. a lot of the info i got for this draft report was from the U20 FIBA tournament he was in, as well as some short highlights from this season at Blois. Traore is a foreign player, it's always hard to find information on foreign players for some reason. don't know his scoring efficiency, his shooting efficiency, or his FG percentage. with that in mind, i would take everything i say about Traore with a grain of salt and would encourage you to go do your own research on him.

Likes:

  • a decent finisher. can be really explosive at times, plays through contact very well, and has some ^interesting post moves.

  • lengthy player, being 6'9. not sure what his wingspan is, because i couldn't find an exact measurement that i felt like i could trust, but it seemed long(?).

  • not a bad shot blocker.

  • does good cutting off the ball. finds ways to get an easy layup or a dunk.

  • fairly quick.

Issues:

  • does not have a jumper. his form is really wonky, he's 22% from three, and 69% from the line. isn't afraid to shoot the ball though, and sometimes it goes in... sometimes.

  • Traore seems like a really limited player on the offensive end. like i mentioned, Traore doesn't have a jumper. he can't really create for himself if it isn't the paint. he doesn't have a mid-range. he doesn't have a consistent floater. he shows flashes of being able to make plays and pass the ball well, but he doesn't utilize his court vision as often as you'd like. it's a little hard to really grasp what Traore can offer offensively, but at this point, it doesn't seem like he can offer much other than dunk the ball and put-up layups. i'd also expect his offensive game to be more polished, considering he's on the older side, being 21.

  • averaging too many fouls, 2.1 a game.

  • has a poor assist/turnover ratio (0.92); averaging 1.7 turnovers a game and 1.6 assists a game.

  • other than shot blocking, i'm not sure what else Traore can offer defensively. didn't see much of him guarding the perimeter or make efforts to, and i don't know how well he could apply pressure to someone and cause a turnover.

  • not sure how much i like his ball handling ability. didn't show it off much, but when he did it just seemed kind of mediocre. i don't expect him to have the ball in his hands for long periods anyways, so this is a bit more minor.

  • ^Traore's post moves are a little weird. not that they're bad, they just don't seem fluid. sometimes it would look like he just threw the ball up and got lucky, and some of his moves looked like they needed some work (ex. his euro step). this doesn't really make me think any less of him as a finisher, but something worth noting.

  • can catch lobs, but i'm not sure how effective he'll be at that at the next level.

  • mediocre rebounder. although he's averaging 7.5 rebounds a game, the film doesn't show that too much. there are flashes of him being an alright offensive rebounder, but there's not enough to go off of which would convince me of his rebounding skills.

  • a little slim for a PF, currently 210lbs.

+

a complicated prospect. i'm not a big fan of Traore, i just don't think he offers too much. maybe if he was younger and had more film on him would i be higher, but i'm not sold on him now. don't see him being drafted, would hope i'm wrong though.

GSW position: SF/PF

Highs: can shoot the 3 at times, can go inside, a nice defender, he can get his own shot at times, hustler rebound

Lows: not a good 3 pt shooter needs work (but confident it can help get it better for the NBA), staying calm at all times

Pretty major role for a top-divison pro team in France, which is more than most of these fringe Euro prospects can claim. Decent production, too. But if he can't shoot I don't think it matters
