  • Hawkins' shot is super solid! He's 37% from three & 80% from the line, while also shooting the ball with pretty decent efficiency. His ability to potentially space the floor out is something many teams would love to have. I'm so sure his shot will translate too, his mechanics all look fine, and his splits really sell me.

  • Super lengthy, being 6'10 and having a 7 ft. wingspan. His reach is extremely useful on the defensive end, he's great at using his size to press guards on the perimeter and stealing the ball or causing a turnover. I like Hawkins guarding guards more than forwards. He makes it so hard on guards to really do anything and he's just great at poking the ball out of their hands (averaged 1.5 steals a game).

  • Not only does Hawkins' length make him a good 1-3 defender, but his agility does as well. Hawkins doesn't move like your average forward, being able to move his feet pretty well. He's not outstanding, but he's better than a lot of other forwards at doing so, while also not looking entirely stiff when in action.

  • Decent ball handler. Sometimes he dribbles with too much strength, but he has a calm offensive bag and can get to his spots with some nice moves.

  • Hawkins ball handling and athleticism makes him a mismatch for most centers/forwards guarding him. He moves like a big guard, making it hard for even bigger guys who might not be able to move as quickly to keep up with him.

  • Alright assist/turnover ratio: 1.4.

Worries:

  • Although I praised Hawkins' ability to apply pressure and steal the ball, his overall defense isn't that great. A lot of times Hawkins just doesn't try hard enough on defensive plays, a great example being that he provides no help-defense at all, even if his teammates could really use it. He's lengthy, which helps him with steals, but not with being a shot blocker (I know he's averaging a block per game, but I have yet to see him get a block on tape). He's not a presence in the paint and a huge reason for this is his --

  • -- weight. Hawkins' is 225 pounds, which isn't bad, but considering he's also 6'10, it creates some worries as to how much he can hold on his own. He looks slim on film, and his strength isn't directly exposed in games, but his lack of guarding forwards tells me he probably isn't strong enough to hold on against them.

  • Hawkins has a lot of upside as a passer. His court vision is there but most of his looks just don't end up connecting because he doesn't throw them right or he just ends up trying to do too much. He can have really dumb turnovers from trying to create plays, but I like his attempts.

  • There's not a lot of times where I saw Hawkins rebound, but I did see him make efforts at times by boxing out and looking for the ball. He is averaging 6 rebounds per game + he did show attempts of trying to rebound the ball, so I'll kind of let him slide and say it was probably just the type of film I was watching.

+

Dislikes:

  • Not an efficient scorer and he's only 45% from the field, leaving for more to be desired.

  • Hawkins isn't an aggressive player. He rarely tries to drive to the rim, making it hard for me to make an opinion as to how good of a finisher he is. This was originally a worry and not a dislike, but after realizing all the advantages Hawkins has (frame, ball handle, agility), it's really disappointing he doesn't finish at the basket more.

  • Doesn't do much off the ball. Rarely saw him cut or move around, just stayed in the same spot most of the time if the ball wasn't in his hands.

  • An older prospect, being 22 (will be 23 this year). How much more of his game will be able to develop/improve?

  • Fouling too much, picking up 2.6 calls a game.

+

I actually like Hawkins a lot. I don't think I've seen him on draft boards or mock drafts, which is a little surprising. He's going to be high on mine compared to others. He has a lot of potential on both defensive and offensive ends, his age is a big worry because he might not be able to reach the type of game he could have, but I see Hawkins getting drafted probably in the second round.

Player comp: first person that came to mind was Naz Reid, but they're not that similar honestly. I'll stay shades of Naz Reid though.

Prospect rating: High D.

3&D bon passeur de grande taille, Hawkins est une valeur-sûre pouvant jouer entre les postes 3 et 4. Bien que son plafond soit sans doute assez bas, il progresse à 3pts donc wait and see...

Stud knows how to play and is a really good wing defender. Athletic and is a solid catch and shoot guy. Limited as a playmaker but a great glue guy. Jalen Mcdaniels. Higher on him than consensus

GSW position: PF

Highs: can guard some centers, can pass, shoot the 3, can get his own shot, freethrows, good in transition (going downhill), can guard multiple positions when needed, rebounds

Lows: when going in transitions some time tunnel vision causing a turnover, needs to be more aggressive on the offensive side (he can get his own shot as well as a cutter), don’t be so deep for 3 just the right spot for it at times

I gravitated to Hawkins game some time last year. Just a quality big that makes the right plays. Reminds me a bit of Boris Diaw back in his day , with his versatility dribbling passing and shooting as a big.

If you turn your TV on at the right moments, you would think he is the greatest collegiate basketball player of all time. A big man hitting step-back fadeaway threes? Sign me up. Unfortunately, he needs to show he can stay on the floor, rebound smartly first, and be an at least average play finisher at the next level, or else he goes from being an insane matchup nightmare for the other team into one for his own. There is an elite ball-handling and shooting big here in theory (huge emphasis on in theory), and at this point in the draft teams should aim to swing big (and miss a lot of the time) on prospects like him.

  • Hawkins is a high energy and intense power forward who has an all around skillet and impacts every aspect of the game.

  • He’s a versatile and aggressive defender who is a warrior on the court and inspires his teammates. Does a decent job of guarding in space, can switch onto guards and can also bang in the paint and hold his own against size.

  • Is very good with the ball in his hands for a big forward and can handle and pass the rock.

  • Has a decent outside shot, which should improve over the years and could become his key to finding minutes at the NBA level.

I'm probably the highest on Coleman Hawkins compared to anyone else. He is great on defense and offense, and he reminds me of JJJ or Cam Johnson a little.
