Strengths:
Terrific Athleticism
Good Defender
Good Playmaker
Great Finisher
Weaknesses:
Shaky Jumper
What position he should play is a serious problem
Player Comparison: Dennis Smith Jr
Pro Comparison: Malik Newman
Ballhandling
++Strengths:++
Possess a great ability to create his shot
With his long strides, sudden movements, changes of pace, and craft handles he can generate scoring in isolations of pick-and-rolls
Ambidextorous with good touch around the rim with the ability to draw contact and get to the line
Was a highly expected player out of high school but had a bad freshman year
++Weaknesses:++
Subpar shooter from all ranges and the free throw line, he's streaky and it's unclear whether he only needs a mechanical tweak or lacks natural touch
Needs to enhance playmaking for others
Undersized guard who brings inconsistent fight on defense and doesn't show much resistance
Wagner's creation is definitely legit. He can get downhill and knows what matchups he can exploit. The efficiency concerns will doom him, however. If he can't be a reliable playmaker as a small guard, he will be out the door quick.
Slashing PG
Good at getting into the paint. Tight Handle. Good defender and passer.
No flashy passes but reads the game well at makes the right play. His shooting and playmaking will have to improve to be a consistent back up PG in the NBA.

NBA Comparison - Tyrese Maxey / Immanuel Quickley
As a 6’4 combo guard, D.J. Wagner has had a lot of attention on him since his high school days, Son of NBA veteran Dajuan Wagner, D.J. has shown to have an even more promising upside than his father at this point in their careers. Wagner displays the use of his large frame extremely well, handling contact well when he makes his assault on the basket.
His instincts are top-notch with an innate ability to get to his spots or stop on a dime for timely jump shots. He shoots extremely well off the dribble or in catch-and-shot situations as well which includes his own creation on stepbacks in traffic. Wagner’s best professional asset at this point is his ability to break down defenses by getting to the second level with minimal effort to get by his primary defenders. I expect Wagner to not only make the NBA and follow in the footsteps of his father but to exceed him in terms of the career he has professionally as well.

explosive Athletic, Is a good passer, great handles and crossover, Is dangerous when attacking the hoop downhill., Shows good effort on defense but sometimes struggles to stick with strong ball handlers. Needs to improve shooting, does not look to shoot outside. Isn’t effective off the ball on offense.
