One of my favorites and most underrated prospect. Tall lanky athletic combo guard that is fearless and makes tough shots. Has potential to be an awesome defender and scorer on and off the ball. Heavy shades of Shaedon Sharpe. AJ Johnson of this draft

  • Plays more like a guard than a wing

  • Very tall and long

  • Amazing athlete, makes him a hyper electric scorer

  • Good at creating his own shot

  • His athletic tools give him good defensive potential, but he'll need a good teacher

  • Hard worker

  • Great from mid-range

  • Good rebounder

  • Despite his skills, he still appears somewhat of a raw prospect

  • Has tons of potential

  • High risk / high reward

  • Comp: Paul George / Zach Lavine / Cam Whitmore

  • Ceiling: Borderline ALL-NBA

  • Floor: Out of league

  • Expectation: Starter

  • What to Expect: Starts for a good team as a go to scorer

Has a good feel for the game. Gets downhill and creates space very well. Has elite defensive potential and is a solid scorer from anywhere. He is a good athlete as well.

NBA Comp: Zach LaVine

Comp: Ron Holland II/Cam Reddish

  • wonky looking shot form; doesn’t have a consistent base and looks unbalanced when he shoots

  • solid attacking off closeouts; his solid handle along with his quick twitch athleticism allow for clean jabs to the interior defense

  • erratic shot diet; doesn’t look like he has spots that he can reliably get to

  • solid finisher; showed good body control on some flashy finishes

  • great physicals; very athletic with good speed and coordination & +3.5 wingspan

  • loves to run in transition

  • raw defensive prospect with a lower motor than what would be desirable

  • gets lost off-ball a lot; often late to rotations and switches and has a poor understanding of defensive gameplan

  • not super versatile on either side of the ball; doesn’t leverage his size and moreso prefers to work as a guard

  • very theoretical nba impact with poor nba feel

(25/5) TBC

Pate averaged 10/5/2/0.6 with 1.7 TOV on 41/26/58 in 27 MPG. 58% from the FT line is abysmal, but he shot 73% last year, low attempts on both.

Really ugly shot form. It's hard to describe; his arms are over-extended, it's off to the side of his body, and has a bit of a hitch to it.

About 6'7 with a 6'10 wingspan. 4th tallest standing reach of all guards at the combine. Thin frame, could use to gain a bit of strength.

Other than the physical measurements, the combine was not kind to Pate: Lowest standing vertical of any guard, 4th lowest max vert. (This is so crazy to me since so much of his game is predicated on his transition and downhill verticality) 3rd slowest 3/4 sprint, and middle of the road shuttle run. Lane agility ranked 5th, though.

Great transition player. Great body control and can move players when he has the speed advantage.

So many question marks about his half court play. Shot is shaky and inefficient, handle is fundamental, and struggles to get to the rim when the defense is set. Struggles to get to the FT line.

Has passing vision when he wants to pass, but can get tunnel vision when he wants to score. Can't play the PnR as the ball-handler. Misses open teammates and passes too late often.

Defensively he sinks too low really often and will get pushed around by stronger players. Generally unaware and slow to help and catch on to a developing play.

Pate is still immature in so many ways. His game needs a lot of time to shift to a more team friendly style.
