Great defender in space Brother of NBA Role Player Obi Toppin Senior, projects as more a plug-and-play pick than a developmental piece Incredible athleticism (just like his brother), can really rise high for impressive slams Love his hustle, seems to be a constant defensive playmaker Deadly as a slasher, was impactful driving to the lane with space, went from 0 to 100 so quick Comfortable, gets out and runs in transition Has some real versatility given his impressive guard-like handle ability Uses physicality so well on defense, gets his chest out, hands up and blocks the player from driving the lane Just pushed Anthony Black and Nick Smith Jr. out of their lane, such a defensive force Really upsetting shooter, just 30% from deep, lacks touch Had some flashes of creative shooting, two beautiful step-back, high release threes against Arkansas - when the stakes were high Oddly shoots with more of a ‘J’ than an ‘L’, makes for more of a line-drive effect, comes out very flat and rigid at times Like his lateral quickness So versatile defensively, projects to be able to guard the 2-4 at the next level Burst and quickness, flashy first step makes Toppin real tough to guard Impactful as a hustle role player, moved the game so well for Kentucky Love his tall yet elusive 6’9”, 205 frame Impactful forward rebounder for Kentucky, 6 a game, got up high Had some real ugly misses, lacked smoothness with his shot Inconsistent touch/feel with his shot in the lane Lacks accuracy and touch as a passer, very inaccurate, too strong at times Has a nasty habit of when passing to the post, he just throws the ball at the ground. Causes so many turnovers. Costly passer Impressive handle, goes beautifully with bursty first step Just a competitor, competes and comes up big in meaningful situations Gets his hip into the offensive player, impactful, knocks them out of lane Tough body to get past, so tall, lengthy, and bulky Strategic perimeter defender Not trustworthy when multiple defenders get in his comfort zone, easy to strip Active hands, disruptor of passing lanes Just had some insane defensive plays at Kentucky, incredible Would like him to be less active on defense off-ball, can lose man, leave him wide open Rough ft% at Kentucky Main concern is how he can handle defensive pressure at the next level, bad ball security

Jacob Toppin is not an NBA talent. A lot of length, not much else. A very solid defender don't get me wrong but so is any lanky young player. Toppin shows little to no offensive prowess and is an incapable shooter. I feel let down and embarrassed by his play. A 2000 prospect who is somehow still a project. I don't understand the logic for any team to draft him.
