So you will probably agree with me that there are three things that make you a great basketball player (not goat that’s a different criteria cause you can’t factor winning). Offense, defense, and intangibles (experience, clutch, signature moments). And I know in your mind your like “yes and…” and I got u just let me yap a lil and you’ll understand. The first is offense. The stat nerds love these players and normally who they think are the best players cause about 80% of stats are offensive. We’re gonna skip over the second one for a hot minute. The third one is intangibles. These are the players that casuals love cause they hitting jelly lays and crazy posters. Now let’s go back to the second one now, defense. These are the people that watch and know ball consistently and understand the tiny neuonces of the game. If you watched the thunder then you’d know that Shai is an amazing borderline all defensive defender but all the offensive fans see is 30 and all the intangibles people see is a floppy pancake. Same if you look at giannis but instead of a pancake they see a guy that can’t shoot (which is mostly true but that’s not the point). Now let’s look at the opposite. Luka. Luka Luka Luka. Watch Luka play d on the pick and roll and watch him try to play baseline help defense and you’ll know what I mean. Jokic. Jokic isn’t that bad ironically but definitely is a below average defender who besides iq doesn’t do much else on d. All three of these categories are equal cause you need to score to win but also d wins championships like the old phrase and if you can’t preform when the lights are the brightest then your gonna lose a bunch of games anyway.
