Why the Bucks do it?
Get below the second apron with Bucks getting off more than $10M in salary. This will allow the Bucks to aggregate players in trades which will untie their hands and allow them to finally make good trades and improve their team dramatically
Get Lonzo, who can be a point of attack defending, playmaking guard playing next to Dame (taking the Jrue Holiday role) while also being a great catch & shoot perimeter guy so he can be both on and off the ball
Get a 3&D wing to replace middleton who doesn't get injured nearly as much, guards 2-5 and and shoots 40% from 3 (Bucks tried to get him for a second earlier this year already)
Get off Kris Middleton's bloated contract, exchanging it for expiring contracts with win-now players
Get a couple of seconds that can be used in future trades
My general belief is that one first is worth about 5 seconds or so. So the actual value exchanged is about 3 or so seconds to the bulls
Why the Bulls do it
Pretty simple here, taking on the bad contract for the draft capital
This does complicate things with the need to give Giddey a new contract this summer. But the Bulls will still be under the second apron, and Middleton's money will fall off just as it becomes time to pay Coby and Ayo. Should be fine.
This also means any Zach and Vuc trades that happen after this trade will prevent Chicago from being able to take back much more than their sending out.
All things considered, maybe Chicago sends out just one second instead of 2.
