Why the Warriors do it:
Wiggins was likely not long for the team, despite the number of years remaining on the contract. By far the Warriors' weakest position throughout Steph's career has been Center, and as Draymond has aged the last several seasons the small ball wasn't as effective. Reportedly last year around the deadline the Warriors were in the market for an offensive Center.
Vucevic is a nice fit in the Warriors system. His most effective skill will be his low post playmaking, which can be used with Steph's off-ball dominance. He is quietly one of the league's top rebounders, and has a theoretical ability to stretch the floor which the Warriors staff and play-style might be able to turn into an average efficiency shot.
Jevon Carter is a fine vet guard who could get some spot minutes or be an injury reserve.
Warriors don't mind giving up the '26 second rounder to get a more cohesive team fit.
Rotation Depth: PG: Steph, Podz, Carter SG: Hield, Melton, GPII SF: Kuminga, Moody PF: Draymond, Anderson C: Vucevic, TJD, Looney
Why the Bulls do it:
Reports indicate that Vucevic's commitment to playing for the Bulls rested on Demar's presence on the team. He likely wouldn't normally have many suitors, but a good fit with a team that also has a distressed asset presents an opportunity to ship him out without paying for the privilege.
Carter was an alright bench piece for Chicago, but with the addition of Giddey and potential miracle of Lonzo returning, he would likely get even fewer minutes next year.
Wiggins would come into Chicago as a borderline starter, but most likely won't shift the W/L totals in a dramatic fashion. He won't put the team on his shoulders and get in the way of the Bulls tanking to retain their 2025 top ten protected first rounder. He's signed on a long term deal for an amount that doesn't look too bad in today's salary cap and is far from untradeable. He's unlikely to be a long term fit and the front office should be taking calls on him at the deadline.
Lavine returns and the team continues taking offers on him while trying to rehab his trade value and hope to get off him at the deadline.
Lastly, to shore up their big rotation the Bulls sign recently released Paul Reed to a small deal that keeps them under the tax.
Rotation Depth: PG: Giddey, Ball SG: Coby, Ayo, Duarte SF: Lavine, Wiggins, Terry PF: PWill, Buzelis, Craig C: Smith, Reed
