Yes this works as it saves Cavs over $12 mil to get below second apron and then it is re-entering second apron to resign vet min or own guys.
Let's break it down Starters Garland-Mitchell-Strus-KD-Mobley
There isn't much to complain about here imo. It's a complete starting lineup. Yes KD is 38 but Cavs also got a frp and srp to restock in 2026 2027 because the suns got two starters a bench SF
For the suns, they could start beal-booker-dunn-hunter-allen and should be than last year as Allen is the exact skill set they are missing and the suns should be winning to pay picks for that
Nets just have 5 picks in 2025 and trade their worst frp #27 for experience so they don't have so many rookies. Some people think #20 last year for Tyson was too high and he should have been #27 -29. For nets, a second year guy and a vet for the pick will help with their overall roster construction
Cavs get looney as backup C at vet min an upgrade in 2025 over TT. Cavs could use PG, PF, C and have picks in 2025 at #27 #49 #59. Worst case #49 #59 can become 2 way players to replace Travers and Bates and join Tomlin. But I like how this bench is taking advantage of the Cavs player development with 4 guys that have been on Cavs g league
PG Garland CPJ SG Mitchell Merrill Travers SF Strus Green Bates PF KD C Mobley Looney
Overall, I say no but I like the idea of building around the prospects Cavs have developed in the g league as a core piece to the bench
