I personally love this trade for us (Cavs)

• We improve our chances to win now

• We desperately need a talented passer and size in the backcourt, Harden gives us both

• Garland will be on big contracts for a LONG time whereas with Harden, we can save a lot of money by re-signing him to a cheaper deal or letting him walk at the end of his contract

• We have one of the worst cap sheets in the nba and need to prioritise clearing salary. This trade clears salary long-term while making our team better in the short-term

• The Garland / Donovan backcourt duo never really worked or improved. I can see Harden being a better fit with Donovan due to his size and passing ability

• Harden playing with a frontcourt of Mobley and Allen will be scary good. Lob City 2.0 incoming!

As for the Clippers, I like the trade for them as well. They have no use for an aging Harden as they aren’t going to be contenders in the West for the couple seasons he’ll still be a good player. Landing Garland is a step in the right direction to build their future
