Cavs Offseason Plan

SUCCESS

Signing Ty Jerome is priority #1. He makes our bench go from good to great. It's the most important thing the Cavs can do to keep pushing towards a championship.

The Cavs have two holes in this roster. Back up big is the first position that needs to be addressed and the second is another productive wing. I have been going back and forth between a trade for Cam Johnson and the one above but with Evan likely to make an all NBA team or win DPOY the Johnson trade is no longer viable as we can't aggregate unless we get out the 2nd apron with that deal. What makes Cam Whitmore appealing to me is whole package. By that I mean who I'm trading for him and who I comp him to. When I comp him to Isaac Okoro I feel that Cam can do everything Isaac can do but be a MUCH better offensive player. To those that watch the Cavs they know Isaac has been an offensive liability in the playoffs. Cam has the physical tools to play that level of defense while actually being a scoring threat.

For the backup big option I think we bring Nance back towards home and sign him as our back up big/PF. My vision for him is to be our Al Horford. A valuable vet that gives you a boost in certain times and do what the team needs in others.

Looking at the draft the best talent that seems to be sliding down the board is Dink Pate and the Cavs show a use for a big ball handler that can get to the cup. His jump shot is a work in progress but we can get a guy that is an athletic ball handler, has the traits to be a good defender and 6'8" at a pick in the lower 40's why not take that chance? It's worth it at that point. My comp is Herb Jones with playmaking ability. I know that is lofty but being young, athletic and wiry that's the potential I see.

Jerome Mitchell Hunter Nance Mobley

Garland Strus Whitmore Wade Allen

Two solid lineups while giving Whitmore more latitude to explorer his game working within our system.
