In the past 10 years Jaylen has been one of the biggest figures in Boston, and even in New England. From his elite offense to everything else he has brought to us it will never be replaceable. Jaylen was something that only he could be, there is no one else who could have been the perfect robin to Tatum, and then be the Batman when Tatum wasn’t there. Jaylen Brown was more than just a star.
One of the things I will never forget about Jaylen’s time in Boston was the 2024 title run. I was finishing up 7th grade and was so excited for the summer. The Celtics had come off of a crushing loss in the Eastern Conference Finals and had assembled the dream team to get revenge. Jaylen went on an absolute tear, winning ECF MVP and helping the Celtics sweep their way into the finals. Jaylen not only played elite then, but maybe even better. He helped bring Boston Banner 18. He lead the Celtics through the playoffs and to the promised land for the first time in 16 years.
Jaylen had his best season this year, almost making All NBA first team and being on some people’s MVP ballots. He enjoyed an awesome year and everyone expected it to be a great run in the playoffs. To almost everyone’s surprise, the Celtics choked. That caused some very regrettable comments which tore apart the relationship between Jaylen and the Celtics. The loss was so preventable.
I will miss Jaylen being in Boston and I hope that he comes back and retires a Celtic. Thank you Jaylen.
