Earlier in his career LeBron mentioned one day wanting to play in Boston at the end of his career. This doesn't necessarily mean he still wants to play in Boston or that he would prefer Boston over several other options, but it would give him a great chance to win over the next 3 seasons. This trade would also get him more money than he would make under the mid-level exception, which most or projecting him to take this offseason.
Celtics: Brad Stevens is looking for a player to 'pressure the rim', which is a major reason he attempted to trade for Giannis. LeBron is probably the closest player to Giannis in the NBA, and even at his advanced age, can still pressure the rim. His ability to play the 3/4 and pass would be ideal for a Boston team which would allow him to take on a lesser role. Ayton would a big who can also pressure the rim while being a strong pairing with Neemias Queta, who is the superior defender, at the center position.
Lakers: It appears the Lakers are looking to spend big on a center in free agency. This trade assumes that the get Duren, or similarly expensive young center, which would leave them looking to move Ayton and finding a Hachimura replacement. Hauser would replace Hachimura in the Lakers lineup and Boston would take-on Ayton's contract in what would be a salary dump (if Ayton could get more than 8.1mil elsewhere he would have opted out).
Given all of LeBron's options this may be a pipe-dream, but his addition would help keep Brown (who greatly respects LeBron) happy and lead to a great lineup. Starters: Queta, James, Tatum, Brown, White Backups: Ayton, Gonzalez, Scheierman, Walsh, Pritchard 3rd: Garza, Cenac, Harper, Banton
