Why Celtics do it:

  • I love Springer, but the Celtics should be invested in finding Porzingis v2 / Horford long-term replacement immediately. If Zach Edey is still available at #11, this could be the perfect pick up. Imagine all the offensive boards and kick outs to Brown, Tatum, or White. Imagine all the lobs when Jrue or Tatum are cutting down the lane. If Edey ever learned how to stretch the floor, we could literally have a baby unicorn on our hands. Especially with Al having a serviceable year or two left at most, with Porzingis’ injury history, this would be an important hole for Boston to fill ahead of time.

Why the Bulls do it:

  • If Chicago is planning to rebuild on the fly here, adding Giddey already and potentially resigning Derozan, spinning an uncertain pick outside the top-10 and turning it into a few potentially valuable assets could be a solid move. Springer has a lot of upside and showed defensive promise on ball. And realistically, the Bulls would be moving down nineteen picks for a free first-rounder from the Celtics in a few years, with a second-rounder to boot. If the Bulls wanted to, these would be the type of pieces they could build around other roster moves to retool.
