Celtics: The Celtics are extremely extremely unlikely to trade Derrick White. It would require a ridiculous package for Brad to even begin to consider trading him. Well, this package is pretty ridiculous. The unprotected Phoenix 27 first and unprotected Brooklyn 27 swap are two of the best draft assets in the NBA. Adding on Tari Eason, Fred VanVleet, 2 unprotected picks and an unprotected swap from Houston makes this a HAUL. If the Celtics aren't in the playoff picture in a few months, trading White would all but guarantee a chance at a high lottery pick. With Brockton native Dybantsa available and a motherload of assets being offered, Brad might have no choice but to make the move.
Rockets: This is an emphatically all-in move from Houston, and it only is possible with a few developments. First, Sengun and Thompson need to look like absolute MONSTERS this year next to KD. Secondly, Reed Sheppard has to not look ready. So far so good on both fronts. If the Rockets think they have the core to win the title, it would be a waste to hoard assets to build for the future. They need some shooting and ball-handling juice, and they could definitely use an influx in playmaking. Derrick White checks all those boxes while also being an All-Defense caliber defender. Imagine trying to score on lineups of White Thompson Durant Sengun and Adams. Ime Udoka coached Derrick White on the Celtics, and the second White arrived in Boston they vaulted into contender status. If he signals that White is the piece that can take this to the next level, Houston would be wise to listen.
