Before you say, WTF or why? Listen, to the reason. Holiday has been huge for the Celtics and won us a title. I love the player but the Celtics got spend happy and spent money stupidly on Holiday with his extension. This trade fixes the spending mistake, gives Holiday a chance to still compete, plus Celtics not only bring back a fan favorite but brings in a power forward over Springer.
Celtics look at this trade as a win now still plus more cap flexibility later. Smart coming back doesn't have to be a full time point guard with how Pritchard is playing. Smart gives the Celtics what Holiday is giving us now and with Pritchard's offensive game and cheap contract, the one two combo of Smart and Pritchard is more valuably then Holiday in the long run. Holiday moving to the Grizzles given them a guard they can play next to Morant giving them an impressive backcourt. Plus gives the Grizzles the veteran player they're needing with having one of the younger rosters in the NBA. Springer going to Memphis gives them a young guard they can sign next year and develop as we've seen flashes of what he can be. Clarke for the Celtics not only help this year but next. Horford going to be retiring next year will leave us without a big we need to fill. Clarke is no Horford but he's shown he can be a true starter when needing to be. Plus giving Porzingis some more backup this year and next. Also depending how he plays, letting Porzingis be traded next year that much easier if we have a cheaper replacement.
