We’ll just ignore the previous post I made including a potential blockbuster with Bradley Beal lol ..

ANYWAY - wanted to put together an offseason plan for the Celtics and who I think Brad Stevens should target.

With all the rumors swirling around between Grant Williams and Payton Pritchard, I do believe both of them have a foot out the door and it would make sense - in the right package - for the Celtics to move both.

Another unexpected player I’ve been thinking long and hard about is Rob Williams. I love Rob. I love what he brings on the floor most nights. But his inability to stay healthy, while still having a lot of upside to potential suitors, makes him an interesting trade piece for the right package.

I think the offseason could be perfectly capped by two trades, and a few free agent signings.

The Myles Turner trade:

  • Celtics get: Myles Turner

  • Mavericks get: Grant Williams

  • Pacers get: Rob Williams, Maxi Kleber, Sam Hauser, #35 pick, and Dallas’ 2027 1st-rounder (top-8 protected)

Myles Turner is a guy the Celtics should’ve traded for YEARS ago when Danny Ainge was offered him and a 1st-rounder in a sign-and-trade for Gordon Hayward. With his continued improvement on the defensive end, bounce back in rebounding effort, and continued ability to stretch the floor, he’s the exact big we should want to grow with this team into the future.

Losing Rob will be sad but Turner’s a much better all around player with everything Rob has (maybe slightly worse on the boards), but better in spades stretching the court and playing to the Celtics position-less style.

The Pacers wouldn’t probably mind trying to get Rob to evolve into a player like Turner in the coming years, while giving Sam Hauser more reps to grow, and adding a future 1st (and early 2nd this year). Although Maxi Kleber may not have much value to them, he has a sizable contract (that’s not too egregious) which could be used in future trades for salary matching purposes as well.

Lastly, the Mavs have been rumored to be in on Grant Williams this summer. Since they’re far over the cap, we’d need to facilitate a sign-and-trade and have them dump Maxi Kleber’s contract on the Pacers for salary matching purposes. In order to leverage the upgrade from Kleber to an actually desired Williams, they would have to give up a future protected 1st.

The Kyle Anderson trade

  • Celtics get: Kyle Anderson

  • Timberwolves get: Payton Pritchard, Mike Muscala, and San Antonio’s 2024 2nd-rounder

When considering issues that plagued the Celtics this postseason, oddly enough - not having the appropriate bench depth, even for one of the deepest teams in the league, was one. If we could’ve consistently had the performance guys like Caleb Martin or Gabe Vincent gave the Heat vs us, or another solid defender to rotate on to them - things could’ve ended much differently.

Add in that losing Grant would hurt in a potential series with Milwaukee against Giannis, and we’d need to get some length back. Insert: Kyle Anderson.

Anderson is a great wing defender with solid length and size, but also is sneaky athletic and can shoot from length. He’s literally everything we’d want in Gallinari coming back but much better on defense. Best yet, we probably don’t have to give much to get him.

Removing clutter from the back court by sending Pritchard would be a positive for the Celtics. Pritchard could be highly valued by the Wolves too, especially with them having no future at the point guard position (Mike Conley’s age). Add in Muscala for salary matching and a presumably early 2nd-rounder from San Antonio next summer on top, and I don’t see Minnesota saying no.

Signing Seth Curry

Despite adding our big man of the future in Turner, and adding defensive depth/length off the bench (or even starting lineup) with Anderson, Brad still may look for someone on the MLE who can provide offense when needed.

Hauser was a great piece for us in stretches during this past season, so I think with him being shipped off to the Pacers, we’d want someone to help give instant offense on nights when some starters may need to rest or get plagued by seasonal injuries.

Seth Curry will probably be looking at MLE money this offseason and may want to cash in with a team making a title run to get a ring of his own to match his brother’s. He’d fit in very well in small lineups where he wouldn’t have to take too much defensive responsibility while running and gunning.

Last Moves:

  • I wouldn’t mind seeing us bring in a veteran presence like Patrick Beverley on the league minimum. He signed for next to nothing with the Bulls this past year and I can see him being open to joining a contender that he’d want to be a voice in the locker room for.

  • Bringing Blake Griffin back for one more year on the minimum as well is certainly something I’d be open too.

  • Additionally, I don’t mind us guaranteeing Kornet, who’s salary (2.7 mill) could be used for a deal at the deadline.

  • We should give youngsters like JD Davison more burn like Hauser this previous year to see how he could develop for future bench depth.

  • In total, we should also sit somewhat below the league luxury tax line (at about 167/168 million) - which will probably be a goal for Wyc and ownership.
