I did not plan to make a post about this, instead I had something big planned for tomorrow but because of the circumstances that has occurred I am putting it on pause and postponing it to another date in the future. The past few days I watched this site go from a fun site to talk about sports to all of a sudden a toxic, political wasteland. If this was 2022 or 2023, this may fly by, but we are in 2026 and there are totally different people on this site and more younger people on this site as well. I'm willing to talk about politics all day as I am a registered voter and keep up with politics daily, but I don't feel comfortable sharing my opinions everybody on a sports website as I have felt will alienate half of the users on this site and cause a civil war. And today, that is what it feels is happening now. Since I have a voice and a platform on here, I am going to explain what happens, share my thoughts, then try to bring peace to this site.
This whole thing started with the Halftime Show and the Halftime performer, Bad Bunny and a lot of people shared their thoughts. To no surprise (based on obvious demographics) not many people on this site understood it and felt lost because the show was primarily in Spanish. Some went out of their way to call it bad which I wouldn't go that far. Some shared their opinions that they watched the Turning Point USA telecast, which to each it's own. I'm not discriminating, but Kid Rock is not my cup of tea, I went to a music festival this past summer and he was a headliner one night and I left early cause I didn't want to stay and listen to a guy yelling his own songs. The next day or two, another user came on here and shared his thoughts and opinions and called out some users about their choices of what they watched or their harsh criticism. One user took offense to it and both went on a back and forth about their opinions and their politics, then the second user made an off color comment. The first user saw it and screenshotted and made a post calling the second a racist. That then escalated to more back and forth until he made a comment apologizing. The first user did not respond which escalated even more to him basically threatening to retire, which isn't the first time. During the Wazzup incident he threatened to retire if a specific person turns out to be Wazzup, he also then threatened to retire if Seattle beats New England, so it is not out of the unusual but this seems different as he changed his name and profile pic and his bio.
Let me answer the main question, do I think his comment was racist? I do think the comment was wild and is very racist. Does that mean I think he is racist? No, I don't. I had the privilege to visit the state of Utah (where I assume he resides) for a week and everywhere I went I saw white person, white person, white person, white person, white person, white person, his... no, that's a white guy. All of this to say that the state is like 88% white according to a statistic I found to confirm how white the state is and therefore centers his friend group filled of mostly white people, nothing wrong to that because how can be friends to a black guy if there is no black people around to start a conversation with or a Hispanic or Asian or other race I am forgetting of? The state of Utah itself does not come across as racist, but more as unaware. The comment seems something someone who hasn't been around a Hispanic would say cause they don't know boundaries. It's like a little kid who keeps touching stuff or colors stuff off paper, someone has to be there to tell him not to touch that or to color on your paper and not the fridge. Being online and seeing videos and articles don't instantly change a person, instead that does make it worse most of the time, what is needed is someone to keep them in check. It doesn't have to be a Hispanic or African American, it could be a white guy that would be like "cut down those jokes" or something harmless like that.
If you get offended by his comment, I understand and this should be something you deal with one on one, man to man and that person who posted it didn't and instead made a big deal about it by posting it. To be honest, what cause does it make sharing it to the public what one person said? If he thought everyone will be on his side and just bash him, turned out to be wrong as a lot told him that making a post like that is not cool on this site and keep things non political with a lot of people against him for posting it. This is a very childish behavior and only makes you look bad and not tough. This is a blatant "oh, he's a bad guy, don't talk to him." You are intentionally harming someone's reputation just because. Like I said, if this was 2022 or 2023 there would had been consequences because the top users were outspoken politically, this isn't 2023 and non of these users talk about politics. Leave politics out of it. Calling out some people for wanting to watch the other halftime show shows you wanted political tension because you know (or at least should know) who those demographics were that were watching that and calling them out was going to call for fighting within. You should had known better and I seen you as one of the top users when you make your appearances, but you have become petty and intending to start a fight which I have lost respect for. If you wanted to show how great the Halftime Show was for Latinos and the Latino community, say that and don't call out people for their decisions because it is not called for at a time like this and this site is suppose to be for fun and not for political division. If you thought calling people out would change people's mind, that is probably the stupidest thing ever. Look on the internet and look on TV and look outside and do you see people changing their minds when they get yelled at or talked down to when they are told that someone disagrees with them (this goes on both sides of the aisle and not one)? No, they always rebel or they always fuss, nobody changes their minds and opinions just get louder and eventually annoying.
To end this long post, let's for here on out leave politics off the site and keep this about what it has always been. Basketball, football, and other sports like baseball, hockey, tennis, and whatever else. For person one, take down that post. It is hurting you more than it is hurting anyone else, for person two, just take time off and regroup and collect your thoughts and come back refreshed whenever.
Sorry for the long post and thank you for your time reading!
