This situation has gotten out of hand, and now that every post or at least everything that gets on trending is either a GM score farming post or some slop just trying to get to the top. It is inauthentic and disingenuous and it takes away from everything other people and creators worked for. It all started months ago when WiltTheGOAT made a GM Score Farming post that has culminated into something big in itself setting almost 1,000 comments and numerous likes and flames just so it can boost his GM Score. I wasn't a fan of it, I made a comment on the post making sure people knew I wasn't a fan of it, but yet if I said anything I knew I would had gotten burned cause it was during the month of Wilt and I criticized him and made up with him a few hours later. That is besides the point now as it has became something bigger and something everybody wants to recreate. Instead of making a trade or making a decent NBA post, people wanted to try the fanspo version of a get-rich-quick scheme which is to farm for GM score. That takes away from the authentic posts and being original, that just shows you don't care about the site but care about being accomplished and climbing to the top whether warranted or deserved or not.
Let's look at an example and let's take a look at my GM score. I have 491,985 GM score and am currently number 15 with 812 posts, 23,587 comments, 21,372 responses, and 31,541 views. Not once will you find a GM Score farming post or a comment encouraging it. What you will find is a ton of NFL and college football content, a ton of interactive posts, and some posts about who may or may not be next to the top 50 featured creators list (which I will touch on). My purpose has never been to farm for GM score and try to climb up the ranks as soon as possible, my sole intention is to have fun and make good content that I can look back years from now and really enjoy and see how good/bad my takes and opinions were back then. I want something that I could have people want to go back and find because they enjoyed a comment or a post of mine.
I also want one day to have children and to see my content and either cringe or be proud of one day. I remember about three or four years ago when I was a Senior in High School and I stumbled across a blogpost that was my dad's that he was talking about memorable baseball games that he either watched or attended to growing up and I remember reading at the end saying that his wife was pregnant with his son and that he wanted for his son to grow up one day and I find it and eventually he can tell these stories to him when he grows up. That son was me and I grew up not watching baseball or playing baseball like he did in High School and I grew up playing basketball and watching that and football and my biggest regret was not wanting to watch baseball and watch it with my dad and him tell these stories to me. He only made one post and I never knew why he only made one, but it is something I have never asked to him to this day. This is very sentimental, but this is exactly what I want when my kids get to 12, 13, 14 years old and this is why I am here making posts and why I enjoy every moment.
I have been on this site long before it was fanspo and probably one of the first ones when it was called tradeNBA. I was just using it as a trade machine and it wasn't until 2021 when I made my account and I have seen a lot of pick me creators on this site and one that just makes my blood boil the most is TyWillBeMissed (which I think he goes by CMB4DPOY now). Started off alright, then made a fanspo YouTube account posting stuff like trade of the day or post of the day, and once that wasn't picking up traction he decided to push it to the curb. He has made tons of mocks and trade challenges cause he knows it can get a ton of interactions and views, but he never follows through with them and quits halfway. He always has to send you a link like ten, fifteen times and fuss that you haven't joined yet and then when you join he pulls the plug two days later cause "you didn't join early enough" or "I have no time." He has changed his name multiple times, changed his team multiple times, posts a ton of useless and unrealistic trades hoping to grab peoples attention because "oh no, Jokic could be a Laker in my six team trade." He also got called out for his behavior in the past and his reaction was to retire and practically retire his original account and post on his alt that is now CMB4DPOY, which he came back about two months after leaving. I'm not calling him out to call him out, I am calling him out because he is a piece of the issue of this site. These ongoing attention seeking behavior is the core issue on this site and he made that post the other day saying something like because there aren't many older users anymore is what is killing the site, no your attention seeking behavior is part of what is killing the site.
Now, I am going to bunch these three together as there are bigger fish to fry and I want to get this one done as soon as possible. Xyro29 is someone who has gotten attention lately, but has been spamming and posting tons of posts all at the same time. I counted 25 posts in the last two days, which is absurd and just undermines letting one or two posts breathe and let them have a moment. Instead, he is trying to post as much as he can trying to get to the top as fast as he can while he is killing any momentum his previous posts had or will had as he is burying them way down the line if you are looking at my feed or his account. LabaronIsHim has been an up and coming riser and has been multi tasking making posts on here and on YouTube. He started doing the mid year fanspo rankings, which I didn't think much of, then made a post fussing about why people are inactive during a dead period of the site, then the next day goes on to a GM Score farming post obviously shooting up to the top of trending. After looking closely, I realize why he made that post of why there are people less active, and it was because his mid year rankings were getting lower attraction post after post. It also doesn't help that he has been super inconsistent and any momentum the post once had is now gone. And finally, chenispeese, genuinely what the fuck are you doing? You are speed running everything I have mentioned previously, you make a alt to be the "opposite" of FanspoTerrorist but in reality was more of a distraction than a help, you pin Dubta as being FanspoTerrorist and made like ten posts in two hours on why it is him with little evidence to go through, then you made this Vietnam article that you have made posts hinting you will make for days. Like why? What's ultimately the goal here cause it really looks like you are just trying.
Finally, active moderation. Where is it? I have been adamant on active moderation for months, probably over a year now and yet we still don't have any whatsoever and the one time I criticize the one that seems to be active the most uses it as a reason to dangle it like it is a toy. Purpleandgold doesn't deserve to be a mod if he is going to act like this, but who is going to stop him? We are using moderation as an achievement and not a responsibility and it seems a lot of people do not see it like that. I have said numerous times, people on here looks at followers as the goal, then a certain amount of GM scores, then it is being a mod of their space, none of them see the chore and that is a key example of why a lot of people don't deserve it. I can point towards a lot of you and tell you to your face you aren't cut out for it, but I won't and instead point towards the one who should have handle issues before but has ignored it. Besides our beef, the only times purpleandgold (or what he is known on the discord as Invicible) are when there seems to be some kind of controversy. When Charlie Kirk was shot, instead of removing posts he may/may not thought was insensitive, he pinpointed a creator and explained to him how bad a person Kirk was due to his political views. I have said multiple times that we shouldn't be talking about politics on this site, but still, at that moment it was a touchy subject and a wrong place, wrong time to start a political divide no matter. As a moderator, that was the moment to either address the posts that broke the rules or leave the situation alone and not inject your own political opinions into it.
Another time he popped back was when Hali4MVP made a post distraught about Pride Night at a Pacers game. He did the right thing of removing it, but he waited a full week to do something and completely turned it into a circus with a some of the discord coming back after years of inactivity just to what Stephcurrysalt called a "blitz" basically to make a scene while nothing happens. The post didn't go down until about 24-48 hours after said "blitz" which was unnecessary to begin with and enough evidence to remove the post before this ever became an issue. Days before the Pride Night post, FijianThunder asked another moderator to add him as a mod and after he was, he was removed overnight with no explanation. That mod also got his privileges stripped in the aftermath. I commented asking for an explanation for which purpleandgold responded with "?" He then responded hostile referring to a post FijianThunder made previously mocking MohidHassan (not flattering, not something to talk about, not good) and telling me there is no way he would add a mod after that. I tried reasoning with him to no avail. Like a month or so later, there was an issue where two creators were making posts claiming they have taken over the site and bought it from Zach and people wanted something to be done to which I responded to that he wouldn't do anything because he doesn't care about the site. He obviously didn't take it so well and used my comment as the reason we don't have an active moderator and wanted me to apologize for a comment that didn't deserve an apology. He made a comment to someone else saying he was "taking authority because the discord has been trashed through the mud on this site" which is very hypocritical when the only times the discord appears is to make fun or escalate an issue. If the goal is to earn respect for the moderation team and Discord community, then that respect has to come from consistent action, transparency, and actually helping the site and not appearing only when there is controversy and turning it into another spectacle.
I know this post is going to upset some people, and I know there are going to be people who think I am just trying to start drama or that I am still fixated on a situation that happened months ago. You can think that if you want, but it doesn't change the fact that these issues have been going on for months and deserve to be addressed. I have spent years on this site, made thousands of comments, and created content that I genuinely enjoy looking back on, and I would hate to see Fanspo become a place where farming GM score, chasing attention, and creating drama matter more than actually contributing to the community. I am not asking (and never had) for a moderator position, special treatment, or anything in return. I am asking for active moderation, accountability, and for the people who care about this site to start acting like it. If another moderator wants to review the concerns I have raised, I am more than willing to provide the screenshots and explain the situations in greater detail. I am not asking anyone to take my word as the final truth; I am asking for these issues to be taken seriously and judged on the evidence. Fanspo has given me years of enjoyment, and I want it to be a place that younger creators can enjoy for years to come, but that requires us to stop treating the site like a leaderboard and start treating it like a community.
