My thoughts on the Fanspo Mock Commitee, yes, the one I'm in...

Before you read this post, I ask that you please refrain from hateful or toxic comments. If you want to have a civil discussion, by all means, go ahead — but Fanspo is not the place for hostility or personal attacks.

A few days ago, when I joined the Mock Committee founded by Olseneli, I genuinely believed it was a great idea. Let’s face it: Fanspo has been slowing down. Mocks were becoming unserious and disorganized, and overall activity was fading.

The proposal — to limit the number of mocks running at once and give the community a voice through polls — sounded like exactly what we needed. I hoped that with more focus on one mock at a time, we could bring some life and structure back to the platform. And at first, things looked promising. The winner of the inaugural poll, the 2K Mock, was thriving — filling up fast with engaged and active users. It was the kind of energy Fanspo had been missing.

But unfortunately, that progress was quickly overshadowed.

A group of users — whom I won’t name — began tearing everything down. They mocked the committee, called it a "government," and in one especially baffling case, labeled it "communist." One user even went as far as creating a burner account to harass Olseneli.

Let me make something very clear: The goal of the committee was to fix Fanspo — not control it.

We weren’t trying to “rule” anything. We were trying to bring order, structure, and opportunity through voting. Yes, voting — a democratic system that gave everyone a say in what the next mock should be. We didn’t pick favorites, we didn’t enforce mock types — we simply let the community choose.

So why are we being labeled as some oppressive regime for doing exactly what people asked for — giving users a voice?

Honestly, it just feels like some people are upset they’re not the ones in the room making the decisions. And instead of offering thoughtful alternatives, they resort to name-calling, burner accounts, and constant negativity — often without a single concrete counterproposal.

That’s why I’ve decided to step away from the Fanspo Mock Committee. I still believe in the original vision, and I still support the committee’s efforts — but I no longer feel safe or respected being targeted by this wave of unprovoked hate. I’m sorry if this decision causes setbacks for the team. Please know I’m still rooting for what we tried to build.

Before I go, I want to offer a few suggestions to both sides:

To the Committee:

Most people seem to be upset about power dynamics, not the idea itself. Maybe it’s time to abolish the committee, but keep the voting system. Assign a neutral “Poll Captain” to handle each round, and let the community guide the rest.

Make this a true democracy. Let all Fanspo users contribute to the process, not just a select group.

To the Critics:

Some of your arguments haven’t been logical — they seem more like attempts to stir the pot. If you truly care about improving the site, present your ideas respectfully instead of choosing aggression.

If you want peace and progress, hate won’t get you there. Constructive dialogue will.

I genuinely hope Fanspo can grow into a more active, collaborative, and peaceful community again. Let’s stop fighting and start building something better — together.

Signed,
