Good afternoon everyone!
This is Jake.
As most of you already know, I assist Zach in the operations of the site. I review reports, moderate, manage socials, and communicate with Zach to make sure Fanspo is (1) operating as smoothly as possible and (2) a fun environment for sports discourse.
As of late, we have received a ton of messages, reports, and concerns with users on the site making derogatory comments towards other users, threatening to expose sensitive personal information, personally targeting other users with hateful messages, purposefully downvoting other users from their own accounts as well as burners, and more.
All of the above activity is not going to be tolerated moving forward. You guys have made Fanspo the forum for sports discourse that it is today. The vast majority of the users on this site have an awesome time on here engaging in fun, meaningful discourse on trades, mocks, mock drafts, grids, guessing games, power rankings, and more. You all make it such a great environment that promotes positive engagement, friendship, amicable disagreement, and debate. Y’all are the engine that makes things go! You have made this site special, and a short period of unnecessary drama is not going to change any of that.
Zach and I have spoken to each other, and we’ve determined the following guidelines will help re-establish the core principles of Fanspo within this community:
• Continuing to create content that you enjoy.
• Respectfully disagreeing with other users.
• Not resorting to prejudice or derogatory comments targeting specific groups of people.
• Promoting positivity within the communities and zones.
• When you read a hateful comment, report it.
• Once you report a hateful comment/post, ignore it.
These steps will allow you to personally contribute to the reinforcement of Fanspo’s Core Rules:
Be civil and respectful.
No trolling or baiting users.
No racist, sexist, or homophobic language.
No NSFW content.
No personal info, no hate speech, no harassment.
As we have outlined in the core rules above, you may be subject to a ban (either temporary or permanent) if you are in violation of these rules. If you are not sure whether your comment is a violation of the rules, the solution is simple: just don’t post it.
We’ve discussed a wide number of ways to combat negativity on the site, and we’re considering a lot of different options to restore the camaraderie and reduce the conflict within the site.
If you have any ideas, recommendations, or input, please respond below. We always love receiving input from you guys, and we always consider any recommendations you have.
If you have a concern that you are not comfortable disclosing on this post or any other public post, feel free to DM @Fanspo on X (Twitter) or @OfficialFanspo on Instagram.
We look forward to working with everyone to continue making Fanspo a fun, safe, entertaining community for every user.
Jake
