Price Of Fans - Chapter 3 (Calling)

‘Hello’ asked Nouse into his phone

‘Hi-

Nouse recognised the voice immediately.

‘Kendra right? Kendra Banks?’

‘Yes’ replied Kendra ‘Kendra Banks’

Nouse had known Kendra for his entire life, she was his best friend since he moved to Australia from Senegal when he was 12. She was the one who taught him English, the one that helped him with money when he almost fell homeless at 17. She was a life changer. He stopped talking to her when she moved to Sydney 5 years ago.

But why now?

‘I’m calling about Lachie Bennet. He works at my job. He’s be saying… some stuff’

‘Like what?’

‘He’s looking to buy the team. And he’s way too comfortable with himself’

Nouse knew something was up at the funeral. There was always about him that seemed off.

‘But why is this such a big issue? Is burning the place down?’

‘Worse, he’s looking to cut everyone one the team. Every single guy. And the cleaning staff’

‘THE CLEANING STAFF?’ screamed Nouse in confusion.

‘Yeah, it’s getting crazy. Bye the way, I’m coming down to Melbourne in the next couple of weeks, we can meet up soon’

‘Alright, see you later’

Nouse hung up in shock.

Nothing made sense, first Kendra was calling him and then Lachie was planning to buy the team. Everything was moving too fast, just days after Scott died, the team and the rest of the world was already over everything.

Just as Nouse was about to leave, a black Kia rolled up - and out walked Lachie.

Nouse couldn’t wait any longer to ask.

‘Are you buying the team’ ‘And cutting everyone including the cleaning staff?’

Lachie stopped in shock.

‘Yes. And why does it matter?’ This is private property now, you can get back to the streets were you belong-

Lachie was met to a slap in the face. Nouse lent down and whispered into Lachie’s ear.

‘If you fire a single person, change a single thing of this team, even mow the lawns, you will never, never walk again. And take that as a threat’

‘And it’s not private property’

Nouse stormed off towards his house, passing the flower path bed he took hours to create. Once Nouse was out of site, Lachie picked out a flower from the front of the path, towards the stadium.

‘Junk.’ He ripped the flowers into pieces. And then another one. And another one. By the end of night, all were ripped up.

The gravestone was next on Lachie’s hit list.
