Every resricted free agent's situation and why they hadn't signed a contract yet (ARTICLE)

For starters, this offseason was underwhelming, teams signed some role players and drafted some players as well but nothing too big, like KD getting traded in the big 2025 is the biggest thing of the offseason, really?

And you can say something about how the offseason hadn't ended already and there could still be trades and not all players signed amd stuff, but in reality, most teams had finished their roster for this season/need a few role players who don't do much to fill their roster.

And to their is only one type of a player that hadn't gotten a deal yet (some do but some don't), and that the restricted free agents.

A restricted free agent (or RFA for short) is a player that has their rookie deal with a team end without an extention before, and making them a free agent but with the ability of the team to match any offer the player gets and makes the player return to their team even if he doesn't want to.

That last part is important, remember it.

So who are the RFA who are still not signed?

Josh Giddey, Jonathan Kuminga, Quentin Grimes and Cam Thomas.

And here is an explaination on the each player's situation:

Josh Giddey:

Here is an overview- Josh wants around the 30M$ mark, and the Bulls don't want to pay that, but not only the Bulls, no one wants to pay that, but obviously getting a player who had a really productive season without trading anything is really good, so this makes a dilema.

Splash the cash on Josh Giddey knowing you are overpaying, or lose out on getting Josh Giddey.

Now for Josh Giddey this dilema is simple, the only team other than the Bulls which Josh fits their timeline and has enough money to sign him is the Pistons, and the Pistons don't need him they already have Cade and Ivey.

So this marks my prediction on the Giddey situation-it will carry some more weeks but at the end he will still end up a Bull.

Cam Thomas:

Similar to Giddey, Cam also wants around the 30M$ dollar mark, but unlike Giddey, Cam has a lot of interest.

Many teams are DESPERATE for scoring, and Cam is one of the best scorers in the league and I see teams like Memphis and Boston be interested in sign&trade deals.

But what about Brooklyn? you might ask, well, their deal rn is a 2 year, 28M$ deal which isn't even close to what he wants.

It seems Brooklyn are doing what the Bulls are doing with Giddey, salvaging time to get the cheapest deal, and we'll see if that works out.

My prediction-Cam will get traded.

Quentin Grimes:

I'll start with this: an annonymous executive in the league reportedly said "why spend 20M on Quentin Grimes when you can get Gary Trent Jr for the league minimum?"

And without the Gary Trent Jr glazing for a second-he is right, why pay a guy who is young and inexpirienced when you have cheaper, more stable options?

And for Quetin Grimes this applies the most as with the other guys, we knew they had flashes from at least a year ago of their talent, for Grimes, well we knew he was going to be a good role player, but not the guy he was at Phili last season, and thats the problem, the sample size.

Teams don't want a "March warrior" of some sorts, they want an established, consistant player instead.

So yeah even though Grimes wants way more than that, he'll prolly resign with Phili for like 15mil.

Jonathan Kuminga:

This is the most interesting one because it is the one that has the most info about it to the media.

Basicly:

  • Kuminga wants out of GS and the Warriors want to get rid of him

  • Warriors want to do a sign and trade because it's better than nothing

  • Kuminga reasonably rejects Golden State's offers

  • The Kings and the Suns are the main teams interested

  • The Suns's offer is too low and they kinda don't have enough assets to give

  • The Kings have enough assets, but the Warriors want too much in their eyes

  • The Warriors aren't doing any of the offers rn

  • The Suns and Kings aren't in rush but the Warriors are because they need to trade Kuminga before they start making moves and they need to trade him before October 1st, before he will take his qualifying offer, so the Kings and the Suns know they don't need to bring a better bid for him.

  • Stalemate.

So thats it guys, hope you enjoyed and have a good day!
