There's report few weeks ago that Lauri Markannen is not untouchable, then everyone is posting trades involving him. Well I just wanna explain why I think that:
Lauri Markannen WILL NOT be traded by the Jazz
1. Maximum value:
I trust Danny Ainge as one of the smarter GMs out there. Look at the great trades he've done before, the famous KG, Pierce deal to Nets which technically got the Tatum and Brown, even just arriving in Utah he manage to trade Spida for Markannen which they now developed him into a real star. In the Gobert trade, they got Kessler as the main piece where he alrdy is a great great defender at such a young age. Dont forget the hall of frps they got.
These 3 trades mentioned is just simply amazing, I think there's still a lot of examples that I hvnt mention. I have full faith on him making any deal work out
Back to Lauri, imo, on a 3 year 15M each contract last year, and hving such an outbreak season, I think no doubt his value was the best last season, he averages 26 9 2 on better splits last season, and 24 9 2 this season, still great, but last season is still better, with a longer great contract, u just gotta admit, the value of him last season is higher
I suggested that Jazz should trade Lauri last season at his maximum value, well they did not do it, aka did not maximize his value. Not what im expecting but what it tells me is: Utah's future plan includes Lauri Markannen, which leads to my 2nd point
2. SPECIAL player
How often do you see a 7 footer, able to play SF, actually have the defense to legit guard SFs, while able to shoot 3s in high volume, and that skilled to average 25 PPG for 2 seasons? I think you can count the amount with all your fingers.
Lauri is just special, for how special he is, you just know he impacts winning, he can play on-ball, off-ball, whatever u like. I think he's just special to a point, that Jazz will keep him for the future squad instead of cashing out on him rn
Lemme use Myles Turner in Pacers as an example, who I also believe is a SPECIAL player. Pacers blew up few years ago, Sabonis for Hield and Tyrese, Levert for a frp, Brogdon for another frp and Nesmith. For how long did Myles Turner gets rumoured to be traded as well? A lot. Just those rumours on Russ and 1-2 frps for Turner and Hield, alrdy is a lot of times he was rumoured out. Beside Lakers there also is so so much teams that was once rumoured to get him.
Well why does he end up kept in Indiana even when Pacers blew up? Well, Myles is a league-leading shot blocker for few seasons, if u include those when he's leading before injury. Together with elite level of shot blocking he also can shoot the 3 off pick and rolls. This is just a special player overall, another guy and the only other guy who is on his level: Brook Lopez.
I do beliebe that due to how hard it is to find such bigs, Pacers end up not trading Turner in a blowup. And look at how things going now. Tyrese running point, Turner pick and roll, can do both efficiently in his position. Pacers now is a top 5 offensive team, and I rlly do think Turner is a hugeee part of that.
Back to Lauri and the SPECIAL PLAYER point, just imagine when Utah have enough to contend and their starting SF is 7'0 who shoots great and defend well, and will have versatility to guard most positions with his length, how scary will this team be. Rmb they still hv much cap space to use in upcoming seasons, + hella picks to construct that perfect rotation or use it in trades to improve, I probably have to say, how do u stop this team?
And lets be honest, Lauri is basically irreplaceable, if you ask him to be 1st/2nd scoring option, he can do that, proved in these 2 seasons. If you ask him to play offball, he can also do that, with how well he shoots as a 7 footer, and with developments in these 2 seasons I think he will be an even better role player than the Cavs days
There's just all rounded versatility in Markannen, offensively and defensively. He's too value for the Jazz's future, that's to a point that Jazz probably wont take only young players and picks for his services. It will need to be considered the most overpaid deal ever to get jim which probably wont happen at all
Appreciate it so much if you made it to here. Lmk your thoughts on this, whether my points are valid or not.
