The most secretive NBA draft streak that was ruined by the 2021 NBA Draft

Quick note, I wanted to make this post so long ago since a Youtuber you all may have heard of, JxmyHighroller, had a great video on it. But, after months of looking for it, the realization came to me that the video was deleted because of his iconic Trap Sax beat in the background. So ya boy went on the computer, set the date to 2017, found the vid, took a screenshot, sent it to an email that I had to make just for this and then forward it to me to make this post. Please like and flame and regardless, let's move on.

The NBA Draft is a major part of our league. 60 new players from across the world are selected, but did you know there was a hidden secret of the draft hiding right in front of our eyes? Yep, the father-son streak. Basically, every year since 2002, the NBA has had a player drafted, whose father played in the league. Not too crazy considering we see a lot of second generation guys since they have a big basketball influence behind them. Anyways, this is the list that I found in Jxmy's video and it's crazy to see the list:

2002:

Mike Dunleavy Jr, 3rd pick by GSW, father was Mike Dunleavy Sr

Dajuan Wagner, 6th pick by CLE, father was Milt Wagner* (post coming out soon about this)

2003:

Luke Walton, 32nd pick by LAL, father was Bill Walton

2004:

Jackson Vroman, 31st pick by PHX, father was Brett Vroman

2005:

Sean May, 13th pick by CHA, father was Scott May

2006:

Ronnie Brewer, 14th pick by UTA, father was Ron Brewer

2007:

Al Horford, 3rd pick by ATL, father was Tito Horford

Taurean Green, 52nd pick by POR, father was Sidney Griffin

2008:

Kevin Love, 5th pick by MIN, father was Stan Love

Patrick Ewing Jr, 43rd pick by SAC, father was Patrick Ewing

2009:

Stephen Curry, 7th pick by GSW, (Dell Curry)

Austin Daye, 15th pick by DET, (Darren Daye)

Gerald Henderson Jr., 12th pick by CHA, (Gerald Henderson)

A.J Price, 52nd pick by IND, (Tony Price)

2010:

Ed Davis, 14th pick by TOR, (Terry Davis)

Andy Rautins, 38th pick by NYK, (Leo Rautins)

2011:

Nolan Smith, 21st pick by TOR, (Derek Smith)

Klay Thompson, 11th pick by GSW, (Mychal Thompson)

2012:

Jae Crowder, 34th pick by DAL, (Corey Crowder)

Austin Rivers, 10th pick by NOH, (Doc Rivers)

Jeffrey Taylor, 31st pick by CHA, (Jeff Taylor)

2013:

Tim Hardaway Jr., 21st pick by NYK, (Tim Hardaway)

Glenn Rice Jr., 35th pick by WAS, (Glenn Rice)

Erik Murphy, 49th pick by CHI, (Jay Murphy)

2014:

Andrew Wiggins, 1st pick by CLE, (Mitchell Wiggins)

Jabari Parker, 2nd pick by MIL, (Sonny Parker)

Glenn Robinson III, 40th pick by MIN, (Glenn Robinson Jr.)

Jerami Grant, 39th pick by PHI, (Harvey Grant)

Devyn Marble, 56th pick by ORL, (Roy Marble)

2015:

Devin Booker, 13th pick by PHX, (Melvin Booker)

Larry Nance Jr., 27th pick by LAL, (Larry Nance)

Justice Winslow, 10th pick by MIA, (Ricky Winslow)

Jerian Grant, 19th pick by NYK, (Harvey Grant)

Joesph Young, 43rd pick by IND, (Michael Young)

2016:

Domantas Sabonis, 11th pick by OKC, (Arvydas Sabonis)

2017:

Jonah Bolden, 36th pick by PHI, (Bruce Bolden)

Now, this is where he stopped and I added my own research so it may not be perfect.

2018:

Jaren Jackson Jr., 4th pick by MEM, (Jaren Jackson)

Jalen Brunson, 33rd pick by DAL, (Rick Brunson)

Vincent Edwards, 52nd pick by HOU, (Bill Edwards)

Gary Trent Jr, 37th pick by POR, (Gary Trent)

2019:

Darius Garland, 5th pick by CLE, (Winston Garland)

Bol Bol, 43rd pick by DEN, (Manute Bol)

2020:

Cole Anthony, 15th pick by ORL, (Greg Anthony)

Kenyon Martin Jr., 52nd pick by HOU, (Kenyon Martin)

And now we head into the 2021 NBA Draft. And I searched for hours amongst the 60 players, but none of them had their dads play in the NBA. Guys like Duane Washington Jr had his dad play in the league but he was undrafted. And what has been even more annoying, is that 2022, 2023 and 2024 all have guys that could enter the league who've had NBA fathers. 2022 is mainly headlined by Jabari Smith Jr and AJ Griffin. So what can we take away from this? Nothing since all this information is pretty well known. We all know that the genes help the sons grow taller and they can start basketball early and are pretty good at it. Thanks for reading and like and flame please! This post has taken months of planning so I'd really appreciate it, thanks! And as always, cue that music! And if you are here whilst the music is cued, here are some posts I think you'd definitely like and should check out right now:
